This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Outer Space Babies, Creepy Neighbors, and Chickens!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with this week's selection of short films from around the globe. Three of the four films featured this week were created and submitted by AICN readers like you and me, and as is the case each and every week - it's a lovely mixture of cinematic flavors. There's terror, suspense, comedy, and an acid trip of chickens that will haunt your dreams for weeks to come. SATURDAY SHORTS lives and dies at the hands of the folks out there going out and creating. I've been fortunate enough to come back each week (minus roughly four?) since I first kicked this off back in 2012 and that's only becasue of the talented filmmakers in the audience. I don't take that for granted by any means, so if you've got something and you think it might play well here, I implore you to shoot me an email with it. Just as I never really know what to expect when I click on an email, you never know what might play. Perhaps a short below will ignite a flame in you to make something, or you've got zero interest in filmmaking, but simply enjoy watching cool stories - I just hope you have a good time with the lineup, this week and each week. Hopefully you will see something you like that you just woulnd't have seen otherwise!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

HARBINGER

TRT: 24:06

"An adopted ten year old boy climbs to the top of an oak tree in hopes of catching his unborn baby brother falling from outer space." Director/Co-Editor Kieran Moreira, along with Producer/Co-Editor Andrew Martin have our first film of the week. I very much enjoyed the look of the film, the design of the sets/dressing feels real, but with an added punch. For more info on the film, check out its website or the production company's official Drawbridge Media's website!

HYPERTHERMIA

TRT: 9:19

"A grieving father develops a dark obsession with the pregnant lesbian couple next door." Director David Largman Murray has our next short, based on a story by Kevin Best. There's definitely a lot of creepiness shoved into the film's 9 minutes of run time and it certainly doesn't skimp on the drama!

THE CHICKENING

TRT: 5:13

Holy hell. I have a feeling quite a few of you out there have seen this short within the last few days. I first caught it at Fantastic Fest and was absolutely floored with its absurdity. I very much love the bad acid trip style visuals at paly here in this SHINING parody. Nick DenBoer and Davy Force have created something more "TIM & ERIC" than I've ever witnessed. There is truly no better way to intro it than to simply jum right on into it.... Sweet jeebus there's a whole hell of a lot going on here.

HEAD

TRT: 9:00

Wow, so to follow up the absurdity of THE CHICKENING we've got a bizarre short from Ruben Pla featuring a severed head! "Roy brings home a box.  His wife's head is in the box...alive.  Roy loves Emily so much that he struck a deal with a gypsy to keep her decapitated head alive so he could be with her...he may have gotten more than he bargained for." The film stars Matt Mercer and Arielle Brachfeld as the odd couple.

BOOM! So there we have it, folks - this week's lineup of interesting short films. I hope you found something you enjoyed! I'll see you all a week from now, but in the mean time feel more than free to check out any of the links below to travel back in time with archived SATURDAY SHORTS. Witness the typos, but most importantly find a film that speaks your language, a short that takes you to a place you didn't even know you wanted to go to. Have a great week - I'll see you all later.

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
