This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Time Travel, Dancing Hippos, and More Time Travel!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, your pal Muldoon here with another fun edition of SATURDAY SHORTS, your very own screening room hidden deep in the heart of AICN. This week is lovely mix of humor and incredibly rich visuals. As I truly have no clue what to expect when I open my email, I'm never quite sure what the next week will bring. This past week it was a small flood of far out comedy, shorts with one specific goal: to entertain (and possibly put a smile on your face). So if this week you were hoping for a densely packed dilema filled drama or three, well - check back next week as the films below aren't hoping to pluck your sensitivity strings. In fact, with the exception of one crazy cool music video, they just want to tickle your funny bone. I would like to genuinely thank today's filmmakers for reaching out. SATURDAY SHORTS literally would not exist if it weren't for the filmmakers reaching out and saying "Play my film, you magnificent bastard!" Joking aside, this is a pretty cool thing weve got going on and that falls directly back on to the many, many incredible talents out there who have created something special and felt like sharing it with us. So if you have sent a film in or are planning on it - I appreciate it and look forward to it not just on Saturdays, but each day of the week. Okay, let's jump on in!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

TIME AFTER TIME

TRT: 16:21

Peris Romano and Pablo Silva González have our first film of the day, a time travel comedy with a heaping amount of BACK TO THE FUTURE nods. "1985. Pablo is a shy-looking young guy who has been in love with his friend Susana most of his life. She is the prototype of popular girl but nothing silly. After inviting her to the cinema, they park his father's car in a field outside of the city. Pablo is more nervous than ever and Susana more affectionate than usual. It seems that tonight Pablo will lose his virginity. Will he have success?" Well, will he? What follows is one intelligently written rapid fire comedy with rich dialog that fills the 16 minute run time beautifully. Check out the film's Facebook page for more info!

&U&I - The Artist

TRT: 4:45

If you frequent SATURDAY SHORTS, then you know it's not all that common for me to feature music videos. You know that I'm partial to strong visuals, and this next one is just that - a highly stylized experience wrapped around an interesting song from &U&I. You might remember the video's director, Oliver Jones, from a few weeks back where I was able to screen his Bovine video. I love the Jones's style and hope you folks do as well.

FUTURE LOINS

TRT: 2:40

Did somebody say "Time Travel?" "Yes Muldoon... you did, about half a page up... In THE PAST!" Good. Next up is a pretty down and dirty short from Matt McVay that will leave you questioning your own existence. "A man travels back in time to win a bet." If you get hooked from this 2:40 bump of awesomessness, then fly over to the Youtube channel for Poor People Productions and keep up with the guys. They'll be rolling out new shorts and videos starting up in the next few weeks. If you like what they do, see what else they've got cooking!

HIPPO FUNK

TRT: 1:46

Next up is a fun animation from a legend in the field, Aaron Blaise. I had the privilege of chatting with Aaron a few years back. I'm clearly a fan and think this is a nice video, though fair warning - this is definitely not a short film, more like a mood elevator. Aaron's Youtube Channel is a vast library of wonderful tutorials filled with advice, so perhaps click on over and see what he's been up to.

JURASSIC JOB HUNT

TRT: 2:17

Last up is the perfect mix of humor, absurdity, and JURASSIC WORLD love. The folks at And You Entertainment have whipped up another fun parody spoof, this time with my favorite franchise. It's charming and a great way to wrap up this week's lineup. Check out their website or Youtube page if you'd like to see more of their parody pages.

Huzzah! That's it for this week's pick, ladies and gents. I'll catch you all next weekend with a handful of shorts I think you might enjoy. I expect a lovely serving of horror given the timing (and have a few great horror shorts on hand ready to go), but if you're in the mood for more shorts - there's a list below, so have at it!

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
