This Week's SATURDAY SHORTS: Aliens, Eyeball Gore, and Creepy Trees!

Hello ladies and gentlemen, Muldoon here with this week's lovely lineup of short films created by fellow AICN readers like you and me. (Yes, technically it's still SATURDAY - so hizzah! Not late!) As the holiday season is upon us, hopefully you fine folks are able to take a few days off of work and catch up on some excellent shorts you might not have seen otherwise (well that, and "spend time with your family"). We've got five unique films below that don't require being unwrapped - they're good to go right out of the box. So if you've got the time, then sit your butt down and enjoy some oddities!

Go grab yourself some popcorn, lock your kids in a closet, kill the lights, relax and check out this little weekly film fest we've got ourselves here:

DATE NIGHT

TRT: 1:54

Let's kick this puppy off right - with an animated film that will rock your world. Ian Higginbotham brings us a truly bizarre rendition of a sweet date night. "Two alien teenagers visit a small town for a night of intergalactic fun.  Body horror and hilarity ensue!" If you're curious and want to check out more work from Ian, then hop on over to his website, his art blog, or follow the guy on Twitter (@ianlaser).

SCORPION

TRT: 10:25

Next up is a kickass short from Eric Demeusy. "The last two members of an organized crime dynasty meet up the night after their entire crew was killed on a job that went wrong." If you like what you see and want to check out more on Eric, zip-zap over to his website. It's actually a pretty interesting site - with a ton of his VFX work, like his work on PACIFIC RIM, GAME OF THRONES, TRON LEGACY, and more!

RAT TAIL

TRT: 2:56

Holy shit. Adam Brown brings us a gnarly film - a genuinely dark comedy. "A couple's pranks get a bit out of hand." And, per usual - if you like what you see and want to see more from Adam and Bull Moose Pictures, then be sure to check out their website. Again... holy hell is this one too real and yet so unreal. I dig it.

TOBIAS AND THE TREE

TRT: 18:46

Here we have a tree horror adventure from Fergal Costello that's inspired by the early works of Sam Raimi and Peter Jackson. "Tobias Quill, a down on his luck horror-novelist retreats to a house in the countryside to write his next opus. He didn't bet on the tree behind his new home being evil however; and it wants him dead. We follow Tobias as he struggles to finish his book as the tree attacks him; leading to a climactic confrontation with the tree and the sinister man who seems to know exactly what the tree is capable of."

THE GREY MATTER

TRT: 17:39

Last, but not least we have an incredible film from the McCoubrey Brothers. "An office stiff wakes up in an alley mysteriously covered in blood. In the aftermath, he attracts the attention of his beautiful coworker, granting him a new lease on life …but something strange is afoot." For more information on Peter and Luke McCoubrey, hit up their website and take a look around!

All right folks, I'll catch you all next week with a handful of fun films for you! Have a great holiday, whichever one you celebrate.

If you have a short and think it belongs here or are on the fence about whether to send it in, please do send it in - I'd love to see what you've put together. I've already seen hundreds of fresh new filmmakers' shorts and like any good addict, I need more!

Shoot me an email at "Mike@aintitcool.com"

In the subject line include:

“SHORTS” + “Your film’s name” + “The film’s genre”

Then, in the body of the email, please include a synopsis of the film and any contact information you might think I need or would want published. The more info you send my way, the more info there is to put with your short.

Please don’t feel the need to submit multiple times.

Remember, the filmmakers might still be in the audience, so feel free to share your thoughts in Talkbacks below. (JUST DON'T BE AN ASSHOLE). I picked them, so you know I think highly of all of these, but how about you fine folks? How'd you like 'em?

BY THE WAY: If you've had a short featured here, that means that I personally am a fan of your work, so feel free to shoot me any kind of news on new projects/films/whatever. I can't say I'll be able to help or in what capacity, but I'm interested in your work and am always down to see more! (Keep making cool stuff, everyone!)
