PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES Closing In On A Director??

Merrick here...
A few weeks ago, we reported that Tim Burton would produce a Timur Bekmambetov-directed adaption of Seth Grahame-Smith's book ABRAHAM LINCOLN: VAMPIRE HUNTER. In that piece, we mentioned that a film version of another Grahame-Smith publication - PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES (available HERE) was also in the works. At one point, Natalie Portman was to star in a picture directed by David O. Russell - but that now looks like it's gonna change. Portman's gone, so is Russell - now The Powers That Be are looking to plug someone into their slots. As far as who the new director might be? THIS piece at Deadline says that David Slade (30 DAYS OF NIGHT, THE TWILIGHT SAGA: ECLIPSE) is in the mix (is there any project he's not a contender for?), as is Neil Marshall (DESCENT, DOOMSDAY, CENTURION). However...the forerunner to direct PRIDE AND PREJUDICE AND ZOMBIES appears to be Mike Newell (HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE, FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL, PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME). That someone can still get work after making PRINCE OF PERSIA: THE SANDS OF TIME is a testament that, in America, anything is possible. And more power to him...
