I’ve been keeping my ears open for any news of a new “A Nightmare on Elm St” film. Yeah, I’m kind of a fan, if you didn’t know. Rumors have been going around for a good, long time but nothing substantial.
Speaking during a panel at Monster Mania, Robert Englund addressed his future as Freddy as well as Freddy’s possible future without him. What he said was quite interesting. Check it out below!
“The rumor I’ve heard, that I like, is Kevin Bacon. Kevin loves horror. He’s a real actor. He’s a character actor. Kevin was great in Tremors. Kevin was great in Stir of Echoes. And I’ve heard this rumor. We need someone like that to take it on. And re-do it, exploiting all of the new technology”

OK. I’ll admit, Kevin Bacon is a good choice here. I could see him really getting into the role and having fun with it. He may even have the wit to pull off Freddy’s twisted humor, without it being too... cringey. What he says next though, is something us as horror fans really need to consider.
“We need a Freddy that can do the next eight movies – or seven, I don’t want them to remake Part 1 again. I’m not Freddy anymore, you guys. I could do one more...probably. If you shot me up with vitamin c. But here’s the thing. I can’t do eight more, you guys. So, we need a new actor that you guys believe in and trust and love that can go the distance.”
So, there it is. One more.... maybe. As fans the question becomes, do you want to see the series continue, or would you rather they put it to rest without Englund? Dying in your sleep is a terrifying concept and with today's special effects, it could be seriously crazy! With the wrong actor though, no way. (See “A Nightmare on Elm St” 2010.)
I hate the idea of anyone else donning “the glove.” Robert Englund made Freddy what he is. (A MF’n icon!) But he’s right. He can’t do 8 more films as Freddy. I get it. Hey, maybe we’ll get one more! I’ll cling to that! In the meantime, somebody send Robert Englund some vitamin C!
