UPDATED!! Sure, Ewan McGregor Is Perfect For PORNO, But This Is Ridiculous!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

I had any number of readers e-mail over the last two days with the same link, all hot and bothered about a non-story involving Doug Wick and his desire to pimp a bit more coin off the success of GLADIATOR by using the soon-to-be-hated word "prequel." What interested me is what was printed a bit further down in the same column.

You can check the original story here.

Seems that Irvine Welsh, the writer whose book TRAINSPOTTING inspired Danny Boyle's enormously entertaining film, is bringing back Sick Boy, Renton, Begbie, and Spud for another story. Sick Boy is now making pornographic movies, hence the title of the new project, PORNO.

I know Welsh says he doubts the cast of the original could be reassembled, but if he writes something worthwhile (and who knows -- could be GUMP & CO. and suck, or it could be THE HOLY ROAD and rule), then I'd love to see Johnny Lee Miller, Robert Carlyle, Ewan McGregor, and Ewen Bremner all return. Oh... and Kelly McDonald. I don't even care if her character comes back or not. Find a role for her. I have harbored a secret crush since the first time I saw the film, and would love to...

Wait. Was that out loud? Ummm... ignore me. It's been a long night of updating, and that Mysterio story obviously fried my brain.

Quick update to add. Just got a letter from The Phazer. There's been word as to Danny Boyle's reaction and the possibility of reuniting the original cast:

Hey,

A little bit of news about the sequel to Trainspotting. This morning's 'The Guardian', a British broadsheet newspaper who reported the 'Porno' story yesterday, followed it up with a small piece.

They had a brief comment by Danny Boyle, who directed the original film was "dying to read" the book, and desperate to make a sequel. He was at the Edinburgh film festival, and said that the would have no trouble reuniting the original cast, as they were "all very much still in touch, and [he] know[s] every one would do it."

Dark Horizons reports that Film Four already has film rights, and I'm sure they'd be quite happy with this.

Sounds very promising.

"The Phazer" out.

"Moriarty" out.
