Someone's Seen THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES!!

Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.

I liked the script for THE MOTHMAN PROPHECIES a whole hell of a lot. Don't know if I ever got around to reviewing it, but I thought it was smart, creepy, and had an ending that made the whole ride worth taking. This would be a nice change of pace from Pellington's first film, ARLINGTON ROAD, which had an ending that wasn't just piss-poor, it was also stolen directly from a much better film (THE PARALLAX VIEW). I wish this review was longer, but it gives us at least a sense of the reaction the viewer had. Anyone else out there see this one who has more to say? I'm interested...

Hey Harry. Just got back from seeing Mark (Arlington Road) Pellington's latest supernatural thriller "Mothman Prophecies" starring Richard Gere, Laura Linney and best of all, Will Patton. It was a "work in progress" with some of the effects shots still not finished.

Well for starters, I liked the film. Pellington goes for the Shyamalan-esque slow-burn, onion-peeling pacing. Which seems to work for this film. Gere plays a Washington Post reporter whose wife dies mysteriously after a strange car accident. 2 years later Gere is inexplicably drawn to a small town called Point Pleasant where more bizarre and disturbing things begin to happen. Including downright creepy visitations from a mysterious "man" named Indred Cold. There are few good popcorn-tossing moments in this one too. The movie thankfully avoids the Schwarzenneger-like mano y mano battle with some weird powerful demon monster, and goes for a more interesting and dare I say thought-provoking resolution. The film has some interesting things to say about the way we deal with tragedy, and a unique theory about the anatomy of tragic accidents. I really don't want to spoil too much, so I'll stop there. I liked this one, and recommend it.
