Hey folks, Harry here... I've got some bad news... I know that we were all thinking we were going to be seeing PTA's PUNCHDRUNK LOVE this Fall, but alas, I was contacted by REVOLUTION STUDIOS with the following note:
Thanks for your nice words about our PTA film. I just wanted to let you
know that this was a Revolution Studios picture and it is not going to be
released until Fall 2002.
Harry here... I then wrote the rep from REVOLUTION STUDIOS with: "DEAR GOD, WHY?" or something equally distressed.
PTA is just wrapping and we have a full slate next year with Black Hawk Down
(Spring), Triple X (Summer) and Punch Drunk Love in the fall, and Marty
Brest's film around Thanksgiving.
Well... que sera sera... at least we know we're getting a new Paul Thomas Anderson film! And well... here's a note that the MARXMAN dropped us!!!
After breaking the title PUNCHDRUNK LOVE to you, would you like some plot to go with that? Well, I'll let all know but prepare for a monkeywrench to be thrown in at the end: PUNCHDRUNK follows Barry Egan (Sandler), who is the owner of a failing phone-sex business and kind of a hopeless romantic. Soon, he finds that three thugs are after him. Meanwhile, his sister tries to hook him up on a blind date with mystery girl Lena Leonard (with Watson). But Barry turns it down, not realizing that the girl he's set up with might be the love of his life. He has a fetish for collecting pudding coupons and soon he's able to win enough frequent flyer miles to take a trip to Hawaii, in a quest to find Lena and escape his pursuers.
Now, here is where the fun is spoiled: the webmaster of Ptanderson.com said, "As you may know, there's plenty of different theories on the plot for the new PTA/Adam Sandler Project, including a plot involving pudding coupons. PTA is keeping quiet, so let's just sit back & enjoy the ride (i.e. speculation). We'll know soon enough." But "soon enough" ain't good enough fo Sandler and PTA fans (also add to the fact that Ptanderson.com hasn't even broke the official title yet, it's just reporting DVD announcements). Considering that Variety reported the plot to PUNCHDRUNK LOVE, I'd call it legit, no?
This has been MARXMAN, going back to control his Marxist society...
