New SPIDER-MAN footage shown at Siggraph!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... not much, but dang I want to see a CG Spider-Man swinging into a burning building to save a baby!!! I wanna see that bad! That sounds immensely cool! Folks... Keep those SIGGRAPH reports coming in... we wanna hear everything!!!

Dear harry:

I'm a long time reader, first time informer. I'm a _______ who's trying to break into the field of Special effects. I'm currently attending Siggraph 2001 and last night they had a special session on "Virtual Stars". Ken Ralston of Sony was the moderator and the panel was formed by John Dykstra, Rob Legato, Jerome Chen and Bill Westenhofer. Well John Dykstra showed talk about some virtual characters he had created in the past.

To finish his presentation he showed the already well known Spidey teaser and then he showed about 2 seconds of an actual scene and an animation test. The scene showed the digital Spidey swinging into the burning building to save the baby. It was extremely brief but you could see spidey doing a short swing from the burning building into the window. You get see some of the clear web strand and the animation looks good.

The test they showed has spidey wall-crawlin' up a small brown brick building. The camera comes in and then around the webhead. They really paid attention to Spidey's trademark crawling pose, even down to the kind of curled up fingers making contact with the wall.

Besides the clip Mr. Dykstra didn't divulge anything else that isn't already known. So there you go true believer.

Oh and wish me luck for Wednesday for the Job Fair.

Until the next time.
