Ya see folks, cool stuff just happens to some people. Like I've always said, something cool (film related) will happen to each and everyone of you film geeks, fans and lovers given the proper amount of time. Ya have to believe. And so it was that Parsifal the Holy Fool. Here he got the skinny on some cool Godzilla tidbit, the Star Trek 9 trailer and TRUE LIES 2 being Cameron's next... Oh... boy... I get the idea that about half you readers said... WHAT ABOUT FORBIDDEN PLANET??? Well, I haven't heard recently from my favorite gal at Lightstorm, but I'm sure this email will prompt her to write, she knows e-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g....
it's just like you say: You're going about your life, minding your own business, when COOLNESS suddenly lands in your lap.
I was in Louisville, Kentucky over the weekend, attending WonderFest, a, uh, cool model- SF-fantasy-horror-comic con. It was a lot of fun and one of the guests was Joe Viskocil, miniature pyrotechnics supervisor par excellence. He blew up the Death Star in Star Wars and devised the "tidal wave of fire" that was the test shot that sold Fox on Independence Day, among a slew of other amazing effects. Along with the usual insights, quips (he *hates* the rings around the big booms in the Special Editions), and greatest hits reel, he let slip a few small, but interesting, bits of coolness.
The first is that he joked that he's running out of New York trademarks to destroy. Look for a tall green lady to go up in Godzilla. He's signed for two sequels already and says this movie will be huge.
The second is that his next job is to shot the trailer for the next Star Trek movie. It involves blowing up the Trek insignia. So much for a "kinder, gentler," more comedic Trek film, apparently.
The third, and most substantial tid-bit is that True Lies 2 is a definite GO. Cameron will direct and the original cast will return. Viskocil says he is looking forward to see what Jim wants him to blow up. He indicated that this project will start to move soon. Keep watching the skies.
My name? Call me Parsifal--the Holy Fool. I just blunder into these things.
