Hollywood reporter has reported that Michael Lerner is playing the bad guy in MOD SQUAD... This has got to be one of the wierder TV to film projects yet. The group of undercover wierdos will be played by Claire Danes, Omar Epps, Dennis Farina, Giovanni Ribisi, Steve Harris and Josh Brolin. I haven't heard a peep about the plotline or the quality of the script, but according to the Hollywood reporter article Lerner is a corrupt music agent, kinda like Swan in PHANTOM OF THE PARADISE... This is to be directed by Scott Silver.
Meanwhile, my personal 70's crimebusting squad of choice, CHARLIE'S ANGELS seems to have a script and a studio. Casting is going to be key for this one. Wow. And clinging thin cotton tops, big hair and killer smiles... yeah. But wait, it features all new Angels... hmmmm... depends on the script. Ed "X-MEN and MEN IN BLACK" Solomon is writing with Ryan Rowe. I'd love a gander at these pages... Anyway, Charlie sent this report in...
A friend read a script of "Charlie's Angels" at Columbia, by Ed Solomon ("Men In Black") & Ryan Rowe. Interestingly, it's NOT a "Naked Gun"-style spoof, but rather an big, glossy, James Bondian adventure-- pitched WAY over the top. Huge stunts, nasty villains, and improbably brilliant, devastatingly beautiful Angels. Pretty wild, very funny. NEW Angels, too, not Jill, Sabrina and the other one. I don't know if the movie NEEDS to be made, but if Columbia is gonna make one, this version would be worth a look.
