Well, looks like 2002 just got a little less crowded.
Over at SciFiWire, the SciFi Channel's news site, they've run a story which says Joel Silver is now pegging MATRIX RELOADED as a 2003 release.
He also goes on to explain the current shoot a bit more, saying they are shooting both of the sequels as one giant film, not as a back-to-back plan. Once they've finished shooting, then they'll start cutting. Sounds like the Wachowskis have a hell of a schedule ahead of them. I'm still dying to know where their plans to produce KING CONAN, CROWN OF IRON fit into all this.
