An X-FILES: FIGHT THE FUTURE Conspiracy'''!!!

Well here is an interesting little story. A hmmmmm, if you will. Is Chris Carter devious enough to of held back scenes in the test screening process? Could be. Could be. But if I allow that thought to hit me, then perhaps Chris Carter is Snagglepuss, and is attempting damage control. Or perhaps there is no Chris Carter, perhaps that's a front identity placed by a circle of aliens and humans, that want to make the concept of an alien conspiracy out to be a cliche, there by making everyone who tries to reveal it out to be somesort of addicted fanboy. Or perhaps Harry Knowles is a creation of these aliens out to make Chris Carter to be a teller of stories thus hurting his credibility. Or perhaps there is no conspiracy. Yeah right, like anyone will believe that. Hmmmm... Anyway Snagglepuss here is attempting to shed some light on it all, so we have to take that as we will. He/she/it is a spy for Coming Attractions, and now provides me with some info. All I can say is WELCOME SNAGGLEPUSS, may we have a long and productive e-mail exchange....

Call me "Snagglepuss."

I have major connections at Paramount and 20th Century Fox, some of which I recently posted on Coming Attractions (does that qualify me to be a traitor, by chance?), concerning "Payback," "Mission: Impossible," "Star Trek 9," and "Pathfinder." BUT, I'll save the best for you, so to speak.

Everyone's been talking about how THE X-FILES: FIGHT THE FUTURE is disappointing, becoming nothing more than just an expanded episode of the show. To some extent, that's true. But it's no STAR TREK GENERATIONS, Harry. It's much more than that. The REASON that everyone's been complaining that the film isn't nearly as large nor explanatory as it should be is because Chris Carter & Co. have gone to elaborate lengths to create a media conspiracy of their own. In effect, all of the preview audiences have seen only 85-90% of the finished product, minus four key scenes. Carter & Rob Bowman deliberately edited them out for preview audiences -- skimming, paring, and diluting the film down its barest essentials for everyone to still enjoy it without going "What the hell? This makes no sense." The film **does**, in fact, reveal the scope of the alien agenda (good vs. evil), yet doesn't actually resolve it. FIGHT THE FUTURE (if you've been a fan all along) will satisfy everyone by explaining the bees, the black oil, and the aliens (thus proving alien life **does** exist). The film, if nothing else, is a political thriller coupled with science fiction, making it enjoyable all around. No one will come out going "Aw, man. That wasn't what I expected." It's simply one of the few TV-to-film transitions that betters its source material. Trust me. FIGHT THE FUTURE places the conspiracy on a much larger scale, as well as making for an interesting direction for Mulder and Scully to head toward in season six.

Only one thing. Carter has catered to non-fans and fans alike with FIGHT THE FUTURE, but I have a feeling that if a fan happens to miss the movie this summer, they'll be going "What the hell?" next season.
