A good book on Cameron and Titanic!!

I've actually been meaning to write about this for quite some time, but I just didn't have an excuse. Paula Parisi's James Cameron book, "TITANIC AND THE MAKING OF JAMES CAMERON". I've never mentioned a book on the site before, but that's because usually I'm reading scripts all day. However, I did take the time to read Paula's book on the whole Titanic experience. Fascinating stuff really. No, I'm not saying this because I'm mentioned in the book. Although I have to admit I'm quite flattered. But what I like is the glimpse at James Cameron she gives. We all hear about the 'obsessed lunatic' the press depicts him as, but in the book, I got the idea that he's just someone that wants to get it right. And I can't really fault him for that. What made me write this? Well when I received Father Death's email about the book, I realized that fans out there might want to know about a good book on Cameron. I am also a fan of Ed Marsh's book. Ok, let's face it, I'm a hopeless Titanic geek, though I'm nowhere near as bad off as that Robogeek fella, who is apparently determined to never stop watching the film. Sheesh.

Hey Harry...Father Death's back.

Thought I'd let you know that I just finished reading the latest book called "Titanic and the Making of James Cameron" in a 48-hour peroid since I got it in the mail on Monday.

Man...It's a great read, despite the fact it has some obvious box-office receipt calculation errors (hey, I know the domestic estimates of previous Jim Cameron movies!) The author even mentioned you about the success of the Twin Cities test screening bit in a later chapter. I don't know if you already know it has recently been published, just came out a couple weeks ago, but I doubt you know it already.

There's something you oughta know about your doppleganger Lewis Abernathy. You won't believe this, but in earlier chapters he went on an expedition with Jim to shoot Titanic footages and later acted as Bill Paxton's sidekick (the stereotypical fat guy with beard), and it turned out that Lewis is one of Jim Cameron's best friend! What's more, he's a Texas native! Robogeek was right, you REALLY resemble Mr. King Geek of the Modern Cinema! Maybe perhaps one of the Hollywood bigwigs could snag him up to portray you as a computer movie geek they love to hate? Don't even think about making another reminiscent of Burn Hollywood Burn.

Nevertheless, as a die-hard Cameron fan (and has been since the Abyss), I appreciate Paula Parisi's fascinating look at Jim Cameron the man in the process of making Titanic, and much a better read than another unauthorized Canadian biography "Dreaming Aloud" which I also happen to own. I wish there's more details of his personal life (if only he allows it) in the book, cause it's really intriguing to get to know him in his past life before he got a break. Maybe another up coming Cameron biography project (written by Nancy Griffins who co-wrote Hit & Run) will become more interesting than the two.

I cannot tell you how much of a loyal fan I've been for years ever since Aliens first impacted on me when I was a kid. I know, I know...it's getting old already. But you probably won't believe I ACTUALLY RESEMBLED his personality...a geek with a taste for sci-fi, concepted visually insane imaginations (I know what's in his mind), our fathers' same subname (you met my dad at G&M sundance movie), same 1-year younger brother who's bigger and into aerospace field, has same four siblings, left-handed and established artists (but I'm not that good at portraits, just draw manga), an anime and manga fanatic (instance: raving about Ghost in the Shell movie-I have his personal allocade note- and Lone Wolf+Cub t-shirt he wore on the set of T2) etc etc. It's so coindential it's getting crazy. The only thing missing is I'm not into HO2 and diving (which he's been into since like age 16--I'm only 19).

Where to get JC books, you ask? Check it out at www.amazon.com of course.

Again, congrats on your part in the biography that's guaranteed to sell like hotcakes this summer. I've seen Titanic on silver screen 7 times already and the audiences just can't get enough of it. I wish my luck to Jim reacquiring movie rights to Spiderman movie when the copyright dispute trail begins next month. I REALLY WANT HIM TO MAKE SPIDERMAN!!!!!! Pity Superman and Hulk got yanked cause of bad scripts...only Cameron can kick ass!

C-ya later,

Father Death
