VIDOCQ!!! And Why Are The French Kicking Cinematic Ass This Year'!'!'!

Hey folks, Harry here... Tonight as I lay here with an aching miserable linguini for a back, I found myself in the midst of a chat with an odd dwarf that I'll call Piotro Pinkie, on account of his Slavic origins.
I was raving about French Cinema in 2001, AMELIE, WITH A FRIEND LIKE HARRY and BROTHERHOOD OF THE WOLVES are three of my favorite films I've seen this year, and then he spat out, "Yeth, buft haf yuv cien VIDOCQ?"
Much like you I sat there in stunned silence... staring at my screen, wondering how you carry an accent into your typing style so... butcheringly accurate... "What film?"
"VIDOCQ," the miniscule one insisted.
He claimed there was an amazing new trailer for it in French Cinemas and that it would hit around mid-September and had something to do with someone from CITY OF LOST CHILDREN!
The title had a faint hint of recollection. And as I ran to IMDB to read further, I became aware that EURO AICN had mentioned this title back in like February... and that I'd even seen a Teaser!
Ok... so now that you've seen it, perhaps you can answer this question for me. WHY ARE THE FRENCH SO KICKING ASS IN THEATERS THIS YEAR? Hell... Even BAISE MOI is stirring up the most Art House shit thus far. The French are taking names this year and thank God, because the year has been fairly lackluster... with a few bright spots here and there. BUT right now... I want to see VIDOCQ badly!
Hell... the super genius Marc Caro even handled the Costume Design for the flick.... HOW COOL IS THAT? Caro... even just a tad of Caro in cinema is worth standing in lines for. VIVA LA FRANCE!!!!
P.S. This film was shot with that new Sony 24 fps High Def Digital camera that Lucas is shooting EPISODE 2 with, that Rodriguez is shooting ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO with and that JASON X was shot with. Ahhhh... the future of cinema...
