Hey folks, Harry here... there are few Jihads here at AICN, but when the Holy Church of Cinema is threatened, then it is time to stand upon a few discarded film cans and fight the good fight. Here's the situation... it seems that some Methodist Health organization has decided to strong arm one of the last great Cathederals of Cinema.... the INDIAN HILLS in Omaha, Nebraska. Midwest Film Aficionados Unite!!! Pick up your clackboards, your DVs, your Boom Mikes and stop this Methodist Insurrection! The INDIAN HILLS is one of the last remaining Cinerama Theaters in the good ol U.S. of A. And there are plenty of Methodist Health System there.... build their parking garage elsewhere. So I say, let the Methodist Health Systems live, but let this classic theater live too! PRESERVE OUR CINEMATIC ANCESTORY!!!!
Here is Father Geek's Report on The Indian Hills Cinema, just click to visit it.
This probably falls in the category of uncool news, but Methodist Health Systems is trying to tear down one of the few remaining Cinerama theaters in North America. The theater is the Indian Hills in Omaha, Nebraska.
Though the building is up for landmark status, I've heard that Methodist is intent on tearing the building down next week before the hearings on a possible landmark status could commence.
Many celebrities have chimed in on this issue, including Kirk Douglas, Leonard Maltin, Janet Leigh, and others.
Here are a few links to stories regarding the theater, for more info go to CLICK HERE and do a search for "theater" and you will see many stories on this subject. Thanks for any help you can lend to us!

A fella down below posted some rather abrupt comments about me and my advocating for this theater... Here's my response...
Now, if you feel this way then you are the
worst kind of fat-assed bastard who should forced to sit
down and face off with someone who's child died because they
could not find a parking space to get medical
aid.
First off... no child in need of medical attention's parents are going to be stupid enough to 'LOOK FOR PARKING' they will simply drive their near death child to the EMERGENCY ROOM entrance and that will be that.
However, what it would mean is that the Hospital's administrators would need to search longer for parking.... visitors would need to search longer for parking.
And I would tell those people to keep searching rather than tearing down ONE of TWO remaining CINERAMA theaters in the United States to preserve history so that future children can see films in a non corporate environment. To see a vision of what cinema was... and to make those kids dream of being more than what they currently are.
FILM inspired many of those doctors to be exactly who they are today. FILM inspires those kids to grow up, to live, to be something later on in life. Tear something else down for the fucking parking lot.... Not one of the last two remaining theaters of type.
Like you said... The Methodist own a lot of land around the area.... choose something that isn't set to be declared a historically significant location.
Tear down a house of dreams for a parking lot? Not on my watch
