Jeremy, the swashbuckling rat from NIMH, sent in this bit on Brosnan and Attenborough's latest GREY OWL, real on, sounds interesting. And I don't know about you but anything Attenborough creates I'm there in line.
Pierce Brosnan was spotted close to my apartment on Bank Street here in Ottawa last night. He's in town shooting _Grey Owl_, a little $30-million project directed by Sir Richard Attenborough (_Gandhi_, _A Bridge Too Far_). It's the biographical tale of a British man by the name of Archie Belany who, in the early part of this century, lived as a Native in North America and married a Native woman. He returned to England, where he lectured on his experiences... while still impersonating a Native. As an interesting footnote, Attenborough stood in line for hours in the '30s for tickets to hear Grey Owl speak on one of his tours. Grey Owl used to be as well known as Lawrence of Arabia. He was one of the first real nature conservationists; he's credited with saving the Canadian beaver from extinction. To think, what would grace our Canadian nickels if he had failed? :) Anyway, the shoot is taking place in the Gatineau Hills. Yesterday they were shooting at the Wakefield Line, which is an old-fashioned train that still runs. There have been a lot of film junkies (and Brosnan junkies *shudder*) hanging out in Gatineau Park, hoping for a glimpse of the Bond Man. There were also reports of extensive canoe shoots. Apparently Brosnan had to learn how to canoe for the film. Don't know anything about a release date, but the papers say the shoot began on April 14 near Montreal. I guess Brosnan wants to work on a few character-driven projects between his Bond extravaganzas. Well, with Attenborough at the helm, it should be worth watching.
