Don't fret about TREASURE PLANET, our spy on the inside a Frau Blucher has fiddled around and found this tidbit of info...
Just so you know, Tresure Planet isn't going anywhere. Your informant needs a hearing aid, or more likely, the person he/she was listening to was talking out of their arse instead of the book of fact. Ron and John (the directors) have been wanting to do this movie for a long time, and had it written into their contracts that they could do this movie. What could be cooler than alien pirates? I'll tell you what...Alien Pirate Ships! I've seen them, man, and they are cool. You think people at the Studio are jazzed over Atlantis? Ha! Atlantis is cool, but Treasure planet has tons more cool creatures/characters/scenes. Andy Gaskill's design work so far is amazing. At this time, Treasure planet is in the writing, development, storyboard stage, but it WILL be made. And I heard yesterday they're trying to get Sean Connery for the Long John Silver character.
A miniscule tidbit from the Prequels: There is a character named Selbulba and it's going to be fully CG.
Oh, sorry, and one more thing. I read an internal Digital Domain memo that a friend had, and they mentioned you in it. It was talking about the pros and cons of selling merchandise with their logo on it. (It seems they've gotten lots of requests since Mr. Cameron wore a DD jacket in a Got Milk? ad.) It said something like "Do we want every film geek in America like that guy at Ain't it Cool News wearing our logo, or should we keep it just for the folks who've sweated over the work we do?" Harry, man, you're now the quintessential film geek. That's awesome.
Well, I don't know about that quintessential film geek bit, but hell, I've already got hats from DD and t-shirts for all the productions they've worked on in the last two years. I have fans there, how else did I learn about that Fifth Element stuff earlier last year? I personally think they should release a slightly different jacket, so all us 'film geeks' can have it if we are willing to fork over the cash. Personally I'd be more up for the Digital Domain pirate flag!!!
