CGI flick called THE VORTEX

I don't think I've heard a thing about this THE VORTEX flick, but from this report from Elvis Spincycley it sure does sound cool. Hmmmm.... me wanna hear more.... waaaaaaaaaah....

Three weeks ago I was in Vegas for the National Association of Broadcasters show. Durring my time there I managed to get into a party being thrown by NewTek, The makers of Lightwave 3D, the software used to create cool visual effects in some movies you might have seen. ( Titanic, Star Trek: First Contact, Lost in Space, Men in Black, 5th Element...etc.)

Anyway durring the party they showed clips produced using Lightwave 3D. The first one was "Troops" a parody of both Star Wars and Cops. I have to say that it looks so much better playing back from Video cassette than from the files that you download off the internet.

The next clip was a movie trailer for a computer animated film called "the Vortex" ( I think.) It opens up with a Buzzlightyear look-alike standing next to an similarly sized Ant. (An obvious poke at Antz and Toy Story). Their monologue was similar to something from Toy Story," Me and my bestest buddy are in an all new film that is going to be fun for everyone" or words to that effect. As they are giving their speech you you hear a heavy footstep much like the T-Rex in Jurrasic Park. It keeps getting louder until a foot squashes the Buzzlight year look alike. The Ant screams "Oh My God, you killed Kenny you bastard" (South Park homage) and then he gets stepped on too.

It pulls back to show a Space Marine, who says " This aint no kiddie show, get ready to Rock" and then errupts into White Zombie's "More human than Human". It was a visual assault as well as a audio one with the clips jumping from one to the next.

The Clip barrage starts with the interior of a submersible aircraft carrier. It surfaces and launches a futuristic looking Helicoptor. It flys to what looks like a warehouse and a commando squad gets out. There is a tear in Space that is directly above said warehouse. helicoptor gets destroyed because its to close to said tear in space. Lots of Ailens pour out of said hole. (Aliens look like the spider's from Starship Troopers). Next, Lots of futuristic Jet fighters involved in aerial combat with alien attack craft. Jump to Warehouse Space Marines, walking around with Weapons drawn. Aliens attack. Marines attack Bloody carnage all around.

Three fighters are launched from earth to assult the Alien mothership. They complete their mission and blow up said mothership. Jump to Earth HQ. Serious looking admiral type talks to someone sitting in a chair that has its back to us. He says something like "Do you think they will be back ?" Said person in Chair is a different kind of Alien with a gravely voice, "Yes, they will be back in Greater Numbers, you have only just annoyed them"

To sum up this movie I would have to say that it looks like a cross between Independence Day, Starship Troopers, Aliens, Space: Above and Beyond, The Hunt for Red October, Dirty Harry, and a Japanese Anime called "The Overlord".

The editing looked great, but clips and loud music are not a movie make, even if at the end of this clip they had a release date of "June 1999". I have been trying to find out more about the movie but have had no luck. I am hoping someone else might have more info on this and will respond.
