Hey folks, Harry here... Moriarty has seen this movie too... He sucks.... I don't know anything other than the trailer, because the filmmakers haven't released the film before my eyes yet. boo hoo.... boo hoo.... Moriarty says that I will see it later this month... but not now. booo hooo.... Everyone knows I'm the gay musical lover on the website... I need to see HEDWIG now! Or maybe not... sniffle...

Hi Harry,

The Hedwig trailer has hit theaters and is available for download at the following link:

I've seen the film a few times, and I've got to say it's probably the best film I've seen this year. I am a bit biased however, as I was involved in the film's post production...

Enjoy,

John

Hey, all. "Moriarty"here. Just checking in with a brief review of HEDWIG that showed up in my mailbox yesterday. Thought it would be nice to share a fresh opinion on the film with you. Personally, I think the trailer's okay, but it doesn't really capture the film's total brilliance. I think this is one you'll just have to experience for yourself when it's released. Two and a half minutes just isn't enough time. You might be better off finding "The Origin of Love" or "Angry Inch" on Napster if you want to understand the real appeal. Here's "Vorlon" with his take on things...

Long-time viewer, first-time caller, blah-blah-blah...

I'm not very handy at reviewing, so you may want to lump this in with more reviews when they come through (and I hope they do... I believe Harold Hellman said on his Moviegeek website that he was planning to see it Monday 6/11).

But I simply had to rave about the movie adaption of the glam-rock musical "Hedwig and the Angry Inch". Never saw the musical, and I actually rather loathe stage and film musicals in general. I went to this at the Seattle International Film Festival, expecting some sort of cheesy Rocky Horror meets Spinal Tap thing, and walked out of it stunned and grinning.

Obviously, this film wouldn't work at all if Hedwig herself wasn't compelling. Fortunately, director/writer/star John Cameron Mitchell has charisma to spare, channelling the essence of Bowie from about 1974 into some killer set pieces which manage to tell a surprisingly moving story about how Hedwig gained her "angry inch" (botched sex-change operation), and how she copes with her former lover having stolen all her best songs.

This was the most well-crafted film I've seen in a while, probably a result of having been adapted from an off-Broadway production. By well-crafted I mean the (light) use of appropriately childlike and sketchy animated sequences, the outlandish set and costume design, the lyrically efficient and driving soundtrack, and Mitchell's directing style.

A better description of the film than I could give exists at the SIFF website (http://www.seattlefilm.com/filmdetail.lasso?-token.filmID=201100). Grab some friends, go find this movie, and sing along when told to...
