TOMB RAIDER rules says David...

Hey folks, Harry here... we've had a pair of negative reviews on TOMB RAIDER... one that was moderate and the other completely trashing it. Well... there's another side to watching TOMB RAIDER as well... The side that loved it. And from what I hear, there was a majority portion of the audience that really dug the film... Here's one of them....

Harry,

Never have posted one before, but one of my friends whom I told about the movie said people were dissing it on your web site, so thought it was time to speak out. I also saw the Tomb Raider preview in Portland last Thursday night. And I thought this movie rocked! Yes, its a summer flick, but it was fun and the action kicked ass. So if you see fit to post, here's my review:

First off let me say I really had a fun time at this film. And that's what its all about people, we are there to enjoy ourselves.

Angelina Jolie was perfectly cast as Lara Croft, I was racking my brain trying to come up with another actress who could fit the bill of beauty and toughness, and couldn't name one out there right now. She does a great job, and looks like she is enjoying herself on screen. (Ok, so maybe I could have used a little more nudity too, but I won't let that spoil it for me. That's what we have Friday night Skinemax for anyway.)

The beginning training sequence is pretty hard core, with her jumping around as this robot tries to bash her head in. I liked it because it was a little more creative than just guns shooting at her, I mean the thing had buzz saws and stuff trying to chop her to pieces.

OK, the next big action sequence with the bungee scene and the house raid, that goes down in my coolest scenes of all time. First of all she is doing this kind of exercise routine on the bungee cords which was so cool. And then the way in which she used them to her advantage in the fight, give kudos to the writer, director, action choreographer, whoever, this is the part that will be talked about. Truly an original scene.

The part in the ancient temple was pretty cool too. Set designs on this movie were amazing--from this scene and the final ones leading up to and inside the ice cave , wow. In the ancient temple she is hanging from these giant tree roots underground, and then trying to beat the bad guys to the first piece.

I did like this scene a bit better than when they claim the 2nd piece of the triangle, but I was Ok with that. Set and scene for this last action sequence was pretty original to say the least. Had to do with a giant model of the solar system spinning around.

As for nitpicking about the Buddhist stuff, ok, maybe in real life that is not true. Movies are about suspension of reality. Making the unbelievable, believable. How many movies would stand up if we went over every little detail. To me, that's when a movie stops being something that I can sit down and enjoy. This is supposed to be a fun ride, not an excursion into the Encyclopedia Britannica. (If you want to nitpick, I believe the action took place in Cambodia, not Singapore.)

And regarding the issue of the Contact rip off, not trying to be a psychologist here or anything, but it is true in real life that many people have unresolved issues with those closest to them.

2 things that did confuse me like the others--I was also not sure what happened to the head that was cut off, or why they even needed it. And the Illuminati (sp?), well they were the bad guys, and I wasn't exactly sure of their motives. So I had to let it go at they are the bad guys, Lara is the good guy/girl, need we say more. She has to stop them.

We all know how a movie like this is ultimately going to end, its fun getting there though. I dug this movie, as a summer flick I think it will do great, and I have been telling all my friends to go see it.
