HERC Reviews The ANGEL Finale!!

Angel 2.22 FAQ

What’s it called?

“There's No Place like Plrtz Glrb.”

Who’s responsible?

It’s written and directed by series co-creator David Greenwalt (author of “Dear Boy,” in which Angel learns Darla is really back, “Happy Anniversary,” the one with time-freeze boy, and the excellent “Dead End,” in which Lindsey gets his new hand).

What does TV Guide say?

“The sophomore-season finale has things popping in Pylea as Angel, Cordelia, Wesley, Gunn and the Host find it increasingly complicated to get out of the foreign dimension. Figurehead princess Cordy is trapped in the palace by the ill-intentioned priest Silas, who is also responsible for the Host's recent beheading. Luckily, Lorne's bizarre physiology allows his ever-talkative head to survive, provided his body isn't mutilated. While Cordy helps the disembodied noggin complete himself, a lost-in-the-woods Angel (David Boreanaz) bonds with fellow refugee Fred (Amy Acker); and Gunn (J. August Richards) and Wesley (Alexis Denisof) get caught up with a band of rebels.”

What’s TV Guide not telling us?

Groo, fueled by his love for Cordelia, ends up fighting the Angelbeast. Otherwise, TV Guide pretty much tells the story.

Does Krevlornswath get his body back?

Of course. Groo helps to secretly transport it home to Camp Deathwok.

When is the return flight to L.A.?

In about 55 minutes.

How long does it take for “Army of Darkness”-like automobile mayhem to kick in?

There is no “Army of Darkness”-like automobile mayhem. We don’t see the car again until it crashes through the portal into Krevlornswath’s club.

What? It never occurs to Gunn or Angel to chase around those evil monk guys with a black convertible?

Nope.

Does Krevlornswath return? Does it look like Fred’s a regular next season?

Angel’s car seats six.

Any surprises?

Cordy, at one point, is offered the chance to purge herself of her painful visions. Silas, we learn, has a “doomsday device” capable of decapitating every slave in Pylea.

The big news?

This is technically a crossover episode.

Yes? Any sign of the interdimensional mayhem Buffy has to deal with tonight?

Nope. It’s all over with by the time the gang gets back to HQ.

Having seen the “Angel” finale, are you more convinced or less convinced that the “Buffy” finale is a cliffhanger?

More.

Are Wolfram & Hart lawyers waiting for Angel & Co. when they get home?

No. But someone is.

Is it Dru and/or Darla?

No. (Screen Actors Guild permitting, Julie Benz is starring in the WB’s new Kevin Williamson series, “Glory Days,” come autumn).

What’s good?

Cordy remains half-naked the entire episode!

What’s not so good?

It looks like the writers squandered every one of the fun surprises last week. The big shocker tonight is the aforementioned absence of automotive mayhem. And where 2.21 came packed with big-time hilarity, this one conjures nary a giggle (though not for lack of trying).
