Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
We've had contributions here at AICN before from Andrew Raush, a guy who's working on a book where he interviews a number of figures fromt he world of horror cinema. We've run brief bits of his work, like chats with Ian McKellan and Wes Craven, and now he's stepped forward with a piece of an interview from TWO YEARS AGO that sheds some interesting light on a story I ran earlier this week.
In the original piece, I ran an e-mail from "The Woodsman," who claimed Jamie Lee Curtis had already shot her material for the upcoming HALLOWEEN: THE FRANCHISE IS OVER back when she was shooting H2O, the supposed end of the series.
"No, no," protested Halloween Movies.com, stating that Curtis was actually about to begin work. So I ran the retraction and shrugged off the Woodsman's original letter as someone's odd idea of a joke.
Well... maybe not. Check this out.
ANDREW J. RAUSCH: In the defense of the Woodsman stuff about Jamie Lee Curtis, this is what Kevin Williamson told me TWO YEARS AGO... This was for a book which I'm still working on; a collection of interviews with filmmakers. In
case if there's any doubt as to the authenticity of my interview, I am the same guy who interviewed Wes Craven and Ian McKellen for AIN'T IT COOL NEWS in the past.
Now this is not to say that a new script hasn't since been written and Jamie hasn't since agreed to appear in it doing something else. After all, what else does she have going these days?
I'd read that at one point they considered an alternate ending for
Halloween: H20.

KEVIN WILLIAMSON: There was a big argument concerning [executive producer] Moustapha Akkad. He owns the character Michael Myers and that's his life's blood. That's the only way he really makes money, so he would not let us kill Michael Myers. Jamie Lee Curtis said, "I'm not gonna do this if I don't get to kill him. There's no reason for me to come back if I don't get to kill him." So we had a big fight on our hands. We were like, "We've got to kill him. We've got to satisfy the audience." They go, "Well, kill him. Stab him. Let him lie there dead." Because he wanted to bring him back for another movie. Jamie Lee Curtis said she wouldn't do the film unless she got to cut his head off. She said, "I've got to chop his head off." So me and Jamie went to Moustapha and pitched to him how we wanted to kill him. Then we also pitched to him how they could resurrect him and bring him back in Halloween 8. I came up with a way he could survive. I pitched that to him, he liked it, and they actually filmed it for the opening of part 8. And Jamie Lee Curtis agreed to let herself be filmed and appear in the first minute of Halloween 8.
I know they're shooting on a sanitarium set now, and that's where Laurie Strode dies in the opening of the script for HALLOWEEN: WHY ARE WE STILL DOING THESE? Still, it's interesting that these two stories match. Is there footage out there for an alternative planned opening? If so, it might be fun to slap that on a DVD for those people who still believe there's a pulse in this series. Come on, Akkad... you owe them at least that much, don'tcha think?
"Moriarty" out.
