THE VIG

Dean Witter sent in the following review on THE VIG which screened Thursday night in Manhattan. Anyone else see it? Please note, this is one person's opinion, and not the definative viewpoint Ilike there ever is one). So take with a grain...

this is the first time I am writing one for you. I'm blasting this to you from a trading desk, so excuse me if this is a little short, but I'm working.

Last night a couple friends of mine and I went to THE FIRST screening of The Vig, a Lion's Gate production starring Peter Falk, Freddie Prinze, Lauren Holly, Colm Meany and Timothy Hutton. It was held at the Disney screening room a couple blocks away from where I work at an investment bank in midtown Manhattan.

The movie proved to be quite a let-down. With such a cool name, and high-profile cast, I expected a stylish grifter-kind of movie with a little commercial appeal. Turns out it's more of a darkish play with nooo laughs whatsoever. The only chuckles came at those unintended times. You could almost feel the producers in the back of the room blanching as they realized the movie was dying.

Despite the slow pace, soap opera style set design, and shitty (Irish pipe whistle) music, there is some great acting by Peter Falk and Tyne Daly. Its' great to see Columbo again, and he honestly does not look a day older than he did back in the salad days.

I bet this movie goes straight to video, and flops from there. I can't imagine any editing or remixing can save this mediocre puppy.
