DMANN Likes Tonight's TITUS!!

Happily, “Buffy” has been airing opposite “Titus,” so I’ve not had to subject myself to it too often. I’m not sure how people can still watch sitcoms that need laugh-tracks, but if our pal Dmann likes “Titus,” I guess it must have its moments! Here’s D with the poop:

Titus 5/15

Previously on Titus, Christopher Titus, (coincidentally played by Christopher Titus) wrecked his top fuel funny car. There, we are caught up.

This episode, Titus is in a coma, His family is gathered around, because he is thought to be brain dead. The black and white narration segments, normally done by Christopher, are handled by Dad Titus (Stacy Keach). Keach just shines in this show, and the episode, never dropping the hard drinking, womanizing, gruff old man character, but letting him crack a little. Dad cares, he loves his son, and the otherwise non stop sight gags and punchlines let a little non comedic acting show. Stacy Keach deserves so much more credit for this part, he's is the best "Old Dad" character on television.

Erin, the girlfriend, Dave the brother, and Tommy the best friend (actors whose names I don't have on hand) all get some really good sight gags, especially when Erin tries to give Titus a good bye kiss, while he is wearing a respirator.

The plot about Erin not wanting Dad to be around Chris anymore, because she doesnt think he has ever really cared, is ok, because it provides a very flashback, featuring Dad kidnapping his own son away from his grandparents. It really doesn't sound funny when I say it here, but trust me, it works.

Also, Kudos to Christopher Titus for writing a funny episode, where he never has to get out of bed, or really speak coherently! You rock, what a way to not work for a week!

Titus is a sharp, funny, well written sitcom, with a fresh, talented cast, and hopefully, next season it will be back and in a better time spot, somewhere it will get seen more.

Dmann's rating for Titus' season finale:

***1/2

The Hercules T. Strong Rating System:

**** better than most motion pictures

*** actually worth your valuable time

** as horrible as most stuff on TV

* makes you quietly pray for bulletins

Dmann out.
