Hello all you Filmmakers, Publicists, Loyal Readers and Studio Types... Harry here wanting to fill everyone in on what AICN was going to be doing at CANNES this year!
First off, I will be there from Thursday, May 10th on through to the morning of Monday, May 14th. Primarily I'm going to attend the New Line Junket thing for LORD OF THE RINGS, but... I figure that while I'm in Cannes, besides the usual bouts of nude sunbathing, I'd take in a few films and open myself up for even more.
So far I'm scheduled to check out: APOCALYPSE NOW REDUX, Jeunet's AMELIE and a New Zealand flick called SNAKESKIN that I'm quite looking forward to. Also, I'll be attending the big public outdoor beach screening Sunday night @ 11pm... of interest it must be noted that I've got reports that Jeunet pulled AMELIE from this screening on account of not having 'proper sound capabilities', and instead.... shockingly, Cannes will procede with the 11pm screening, BUT instead of AMELIE it is a "SUPRISE FILM". Mmmmhmmm... Suprise Film.... Cannes.... We haven't been hearing rumors about this have we? Ahem... I'm going to be here with bells on.
But, here's the thing... If you have a film screening Thursday through Sunday at Cannes and want me there.... Contact me @ either Hknowles@austin.rr.com or Harry@aintitcool.com!!! Also, I can be reached at the Ambassadeur Hotel - +33 (0) 4 92 93 74 10 and the Fax there is +33 (0) 493 67 79 85.
Now, I'm not officially Press at Cannes this year, as the AICN reporters that will be at the festival full time have that honor so be sure to include tickets or how to attend information for me.
There are FULL TIME AICN REPORTERS AT CANNES???
Oh yes. Grozilla, Champagne 2000 and the mysterious Dr Sotha will be there full time at as many different screenings and events as is humanly possible.
To Reach them:
DR SOTHA: africaaicn@hotmail.com
, also a variety of chants can conjure him. From Thursday through Sunday night, you can reach Dr Sotha through me at my hotel though.
If you have a film that is showing at Cannes, but can not seem to hook up with an AICN Reporter at Cannes - we would love to hear from you, see your film and talk about cinema.
Note to the People of France: This is my third time in your beautiful country and I have to say... I apologize for being an ignorant citizen of the United States that only knows that LEGUME is a vegetable because I saw CITY OF LOST CHILDREN. In your belle of a country I am merely a bete... I look forward to the journey
P.S.S. Unfortunately I will not be attending the entire festival... I wish I were. The concept of not getting to see the new Godard film or Oliveira's latest pains me. However, Dr Sotha, Grozilla and Champagne 2000 all have official press credits to cover these filmmakers and more. I envy them like you wouldn't believe. SO... What do I get to see? Like I said, the LORD OF THE RINGS press junket is what brings me to Cannes this year, so much of my time will be spent interviewing a large amount of the cast and crew... As well as watching what I've heard will be the complete Mines of Moria sequence, plus selected clips. In addition it looks as if I've managed to contact various production houses and studios to ensure that I see the new Coen Brothers film, Jeunet's latest, Roman Coppola's debut film, a follow up film by the strange bird that brought us HAPPINESS, plus one film in Market. Oh... And whatever that "SUPRISE FILM" is.... My contacts for getting into the foreign language films (the stars of Cannes) are quite weak. Believe me it isn't from disinterest. Remember, I picked THE TERRORIST and GIRL ON A BRIDGE as two of top favorite films of 2000... Unfortunately though I am at Cannes in a diminished capacity, but I will do my best to gain as much access as possible while I'm there.
