Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
Well... what'd you think?
Harry here... I've been out reading a ton of reviews for THE MUMMY RETURNS, both yours below and folks like Roger Ebert and Elvis Mitchell and I've got one comment that really bugs me. People are really picking on the line...
"You've started a chain reaction that could lead to the
next apocalypse," Ardeth Bay
They use this line to highlight everything that is wrong with the dialogue in the film... The critics of the line say things like... Oh yeah, like the last apocalypse, then they go on to razz it more. Folks, I didn't need the line EXPLAINED to me... the last apocalypse would be the GREAT FLOOD that wiped out everything except an alleged boat of folks. Generally amongst most religions there is a 'Great Flood' that renewed the Earth... I don't know if Sommers thought of that when he wrote the line or just thought it was a line meant to generate a laugh from the audience... But the last apocalypse of record would be the asteroid hit that wiped out the dinosaurs... I have no problem coming up with the 'last apocalypse' and I can't imagine NOT giving a movie with animated dead things walking around this sort of line.
Also... the griping at the Dirigible scenes... Can anyone remember the dream of Dirigibles??? The whole MASTER OF THE WORLD Jules Verne since of coolness was there. Sure... they could've hired a plane.... or a train... or any number of things, but the one that I haven't seen in a movie before was a Dirigible with a junk hanging from its undercarriage... I don't care if it flew realistically... It flew the way a child would dream of it flying would see it fly. And that's fine by me.
