Ya know people, sometimes a project comes along that makes you scratch your head and say, "huh?" SUPERDAVE THE MOVIE, is just such a movie. MGM surely isn't desperate enough to do... SUPERDAVE THE MOVIE. But they obviously are. I just don't have words to describe how stupid this movie concept sounds. How about MR WHIPPLE THE MOVIE, a taut suspense film about a man's struggle with his personal fetish when it goes... wrong. Sigh... Perhaps one day...
We visited the MGM Grand on the 15th and 16th to find bright studio lights flooding the main lobby. Getting up a bit closer we recognized Super Dave Osborne (that wanna be stuntman). Next to Super Dave was a guy wearing a black jumpsuit with "Super Dave Jr." on the front. They did a few short takes while we were watching. According the the "clicker" they use before each take, the name of the movie is "Be the Man"....and it is a Super Dave movie.
From what we saw, Super Dave Jr. will be pitted against Super Dave in a car jump over several cars, buses, tractors etc. The Super Dave Jr. character would say something like, "I can jump over 5 cars, 3 buses and 2 tractors!"
The crowd would go wild. Then Super Dave would quip "I'll double that!" Again the crowd would go nuts, although the crowd made no sounds (cheering must be added later). Finally, not to be out done by Super Dave, Super Dave Jr. said "I'll do all that in a ..... rocket car!"
One last note, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover were in Vegas at this same time. Though we did not see them in person, I was told they were filming a few shots on the roof of a casino. The following day, the local news cast mentioned some shots for the new Lethal Weapon movie were also being shot on Las Vegas freeways.
