Hey folks, Harry here... Hopefully, I will be seeing this movie tonight, otherwise I probably won't have a chance to review it before it opens domestically due to travel to Cannes... I've got my fingers crossed... Reviews like this one just have me salivating though....
Hey harry.
Movie theater guy here w/ a review of Shrek!
Dreamworks held a screening of the movie today for theater management and employees. So I thought I should spread the word! First off they started off w/ a trailer for EVOLUTION! That looks like it could be a winner.
Well to start off this is a great movie. Alot of business will come for us movie theater folks when we the 18th of May comes. And we need the business.
Anyways the story is pretty well known by now but I'll rehash some of it. Shrek is an oger whose swamp has been taken over by banished fairy tale squatters. In an attempt to get his swamp back he goes to have it out w/ Prince Farquaad. Farquaad says he can have his swamp back if he rescues Princess Fiona from a dragon protected castle. So Shrek does it and on the way back a love story of a different sort unfolds.
Well the movie isn't all perfect. Although I did enjoy it I thought there were a couple of jokes that although funny didn't really work. There's the Matrix spoof that Princess Fiona does. This kung fu action would have been funnier last year before Scary Movie and pretty well every other action movie that has ripped it off. Then again it made me laugh because I thought that was a spoof already dead. There were a couple dumb jokes that weren't all that clever and usually had to do w/ bodily functions.
But there's alot of great stuff like I said before (or did I)? Anyways for a bad or dumb joke/gag there are twenty better ones. They come fast and furious (sorry for the pun). The voice work is amazing. Mike Myers plays the straight man to Eddie Murphy's Donkey who has some of the best lines in the movie. The animation is simply awesome. There's a scene that takes place on a grassy hill and the grass looks super realistic as do the trees that line the hill. For a moment I had to think and wonder if they had pulled a Roger Rabbit by placing animation in real life. But I'll take their word that it's all CG.
Anyways that's enough from me. It's a great movie and worth your money and time. here's hoping for a great DVD (deleted animation would be nice - hint hint DreamWorks) Until the next time I'll be popping in the real world.
