Ya know that trade article on SUPERMAN' Plus New PLANET OF THE APES Trailer info

Hey folks, Harry here... So I read that article in The Hollywood Reporter, and my instant reaction was Jon Peters spin control on losing his deal with Warner Brothers.

Jon brings... YET ANOTHER WRITER onto SUPERMAN... this time Paul Attanasio (DONNIE BRASCO, QUIZ SHOW and SPHERE) is planning on writing something up. Apparently they've abandoned all of the development since Burton left (Lobo/Superman, and at least one draft that I heard of based on the Superman Live/Die thing) and will have Paul start from scratch... based on Superman dying and being reborn. AHEM... BOOOOOORINNNNGGGG!

But wait... the press release/story mentions 3 filmmakers that Peters wanted to throw out there to make the project seem more vital and alive today... Tim Burton, Oliver Stone and Robert Rodriguez.

Ok... Now let's make-believe like that is true for a second and discard this as being wishful thinking via a hair dresser... IF THESE THREE DIRECTORS were interested.... Here's what I would do...

Tim Burton.... Abandon all drafts and concepts about doing THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN storyline. Sit Burton down and have him read all of the BIZARRO/SUPERMAN storylines... bring in Ed Solomon and Chris Matheson to write it. Or if you want the surreal to go further, bring in Charlie Kaufman.

Oliver Stone.... Abandon all drafts and concepts about doing THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN storyline. Sit Stone down alone with the history of Superman and let him come up with his own script and concepts for the character. Hopeful concepts he could explore is Superman's desire to fight for truth, justice and 'the american way' only to be betrayed by the country about which he had so much hope and goodwill for.

Robert Rodriguez.... Abandon all drafts and concepts about doing THE DEATH OF SUPERMAN storyline. Sit Rodriguez down with Paul Dini and Alan Burnett for 3 days and just stand out of their way.

Ok, now that we are back from the land of make-believe... I haven't contacted Tim Burton or Oliver Stone yet, but I have contacted Robert Rodriguez, who told me that he wasn't doing Superman... That Jon Peters apparently called his agent, but Robert turned it down based upon the fact that his plate is too full.

Not only that, but Robert was quite surprised that I would even suggest that he might be doing it. Now, doesn't that kinda make you question that entire story at HOLLYWOOD REPORTER? Hmmmmmm....

Oh, by the way... Regarding the 2nd PLANET OF THE APES trailer? Friday at 7:30pm (P.S.T.) - 8:30pm (M.S.T) - 9:30pm (C.S.T.) - 10:30pm (E.S.T.) After this film, I hope Burton does something weird and quirky and smaller...
