EEEEEeeeeeeeek!!! Time to book that emergency flight to New Zealand accompanied by your Cello! Harry here and ol Xoanon has sent in a report about the musical goings ons in New Zealand, that will begin commencing today! DEAR LORD do I want to hear this stuff! My last reservation... the last bit of fear in me... the only thing I'm worried about is SCORE.... I want a score that makes me soar, that wisps me away to MiddleEarth.... I want the music to just scream of olden times and of people that live in hills, and freshly birthed Uruk Hai whipped into being... I want the music to lift my feet upon the long walks through forests and over mountains and through mountains and beyond.... Can you imagine what the score will do when Frodo puts the ring on? Will there be score there? What does it sound like? What happens? OH MY... Oh.... My.... The conductor is tapping his little thingee... flutes have taken a breath... bows are in preparation... and now it begins.... IF YOU ARE THERE AND YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT IT SOUNDS LIKE, I HURL A THOUSAND ENVIOUS GLANCES IN YOUR GENERAL DIRECTION!!!!!! hehehehe....

Tolkien's songs and the Shore score
Lots of news about the music came in since last night. Firstly, the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra is due to start recording Shore's score tomorrow, spending the next two weeks on it, according to a contact in Wellington. Secondly, Radio NZ's Sunday programme 'Artsweek' is going to interview the Irish band that is doing the music for Tolkien's songs in the movies. I think they mean a local NZ band that does Irish/Celtic music. I will try and find out more, but in any case we'll know next Sunday NZ time.
Thirdly, the Wellington composers' group 'Plan Nine' are the people who did the score for Peter Jackson's spoof documentary 'Forgotten Silver.' My information was that they were helping composer Howard Shore in some way, or dealing with some other aspect of the music in the film.
"I have always found the Forgotten Silver score to be very emotional and haunting," said our informer, Julie. Thanks for that, Julie!
