Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
It's been a long time coming, but director Tim Blake Nelson is finally going to get a chance to release his teen-themed version of OTHELLO, entitled simply O, to theaters this fall.
And Miramax ain't been no help at all.
A high-level source at Lions Gate Films has just informed me that they will be releasing the film, going out wide with it, in August. This is a hell of a lot better than just dumping it to video, which is where it was headed when still at Miramax.
Seems the movie strikes a nerve with viewers. There's violence in the high school in the film, and that's allegedly made Bob Weinstein very nervous. The film's first delay came on the heels of Columbine, and there's never been enough of a lull in that type of violence since then for them to schedule the film with any confidence.
My source at Lions Gate sounds excited about the film, calling it "very cool, very good." I am curious to see what all the ruckus has been about, and to get a chance to view the film for myself. Hats off to Lions Gate for picking it up and giving it a fair shake on the bigscreen, where it belongs.
"Moriarty" out.
