Hey folks, Harry here... Well, since Robert let the cat out of the bag in England this morning, I figured I'd go ahead and wake up the rest of the world...
I've been staying quiet on SPY KIDS, because I figured... what the hell... sure I love the film, but it ain't like it needs any help, it's kicking box office ass left and right (as I said it would) and a review by me would be more or less from the perspective of someone that remembers 4 year old conversations about the various ideas and concepts that would become SPY KIDS as you see it now...
At the local Austin SPY KIDS premiere, I asked Robert if SPY KIDS 2 was still going to be a pre-strike film, to which Robert said, "Nope". I then said, so ya gonna shoot something before the strike or under-the-cap... and Robert smiled... "ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO..."

My jaw fell open. Robert's been talking about ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO since I very first met him... it is his capper to the whole MARIACHI thing... His THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE UGLY.... His first WIDE-WIDESCREEN flick.... The ultimate Mexican burrito and bullets extravaganza.
Now, this isn't a done thing yet... talks have just begun. The script is at a very early state, but things seem to be coming together way faster than any rational being could conceive of.
ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO would take place on a far larger landscape than any of the previous films... While EL MARIACHI and DESPERADO were intimate and small... this would be a huge story... the most complex multi-character piece that Robert has attempted thus far. And it would be fun as hell. Also, like the Leone films, just because a character might've died in one of the previous films... there is a HIGH CHANCE that those actors will be back playing a different part in this film.
Nobody is signed yet, but Robert is talking about making this be... heh... Something extraordinary. Robert has already begun playing around with some of the musical themes (if you noticed on SPY KIDS he did a large portion of the score himself) and plans to redefine Mexican Orchestra SCORES with this one.
Stay tuned in the coming weeks for more news on ONCE UPON A TIME IN MEXICO, as Robert is working to have it moving forward quickly... oh... and it would shoot in MEXICO it looks like!!!

this is probably old news, but Robert Rodriguez was on the big breakfast this morn plugging spy kids and happened to mention that he was currently working on another Desperado film called "once upon a time in Mexico" starring Antonio Banderas didn't say much about it but he seemed to be pretty excited. one lovely thing to see was him saying "big budgets mean the studio doesn't give you much freedom, small budgets and more creativity are the way to go" spot on bob.

And this one too...
Hi Harry
Greetings from England. Today on a TV programme I managed to question Robert Roderigues about any more re-makes he would like to do. His repsonse was that he is working right now on the third installment of the singing gun-slinger films.
It is going to be called "Once upon a time in Mexico", as he is a big fan of the Good Bad and the Ugly trilogy. He also confirmed that Antonio will be back.
If this is old news then forgive me but otherwise pls feel free to use this info.
