A Set Report of THE ROAD TO PERDITION

Hey folks, Harry here with still more news about ROAD TO PERDITION, the new project by Sam Mendes, written by David Self and starring Tom Hanks as a hitman... Personally, this is one of the projects I'm most excited about this year. I'm about a day or so away from reading the script (which I will report back to you about) and I have high hopes going into the read... Here's the latest...

Harry,

Since you are covering Road to Perdition, I thought i should pass you these along. Received loads of images from the set (very close up with Hanks as well).

I have posted two on the weekend edition and the rest will follow on Monday along with set pics of DreamWorks' Ron Howard film with Russell Crowe A Beautiful Mind.

Attached is a pic. The rest can be seen today and Monday at "this location" which will be later indexed at "this location!"

Take Care.

And here's our set report for the day....

Hello Harry,

I was on my way to class Saturday morning, whe I pulled into Merchandise Mart's El train station, and observed out the left side of my car, a number of trailers and 30 vintage automobiles sitting in MM"s parking lot!

After my class, a friend and I went over to investigate. They were indeed from Road to Perdition, and several people were talking to the drivers, dressed in period wardrobe. A number of the cars were buicks, sedans, some with rumbleseats, even a few Model T's. One car was made like a Chicago Cab (10 cents a mile), another was for ralkway services, and there was one truck that read Marvel Radio (and TV as well, but since there were no TVs back then, it had been painted out). A number of the cars were dirty, and later I heard they were filmed in a scene requiring rain and mud. Basically, the cars were corraled in the parking lot, and then driven across the Chicago River to film a sceen with Hanks on Clark and Monroe.

Also of importance, I believe I witnessed what has to be the car that Tom Hanks drives in. I have the "Road to Perdition" graphic novel, and the car looks almost identical. There were two of them that looked identical, except for one being clean and the other dirty (the license plate numbers were something like 246-706). They seemed important, as they were quickly mounted on flatbeds and hauled away. The cars could also represent an interesting color scheme. Hanks character is Irish, and the cars were painted green.(as soon as my film develops and I get to a scanner, I'll send you photo documentation). A photo of a car similar to the one I saw is at this link. Acccording to the figures on the page, thi car is a 1930 Buick 4dr sedan Model 47 CLICK HERE

My friend Fernando also told me that on his way over from the south side, a number of the cars were lining up along one of the bridges spanning the Chicago River.

A few blocks away, extras, costuming and makeup crew were housed in a building across from the Harry Carry restaurant. Security was kind of tight, but you could still walk past the building and see the lunch tables for the extras.

Word was Hanks was filming on Clark and Adams St. on Saturday, word is that on Sunday, he will shoot on Jackson and Monroe. I'm not sure how they'll convey the mood of a rainy/snowy atmosphere today, as it is seemingly warm and sunny outside. But even still, i will go into the heart of the city, trying to find pictures of activity. I may just get a picture of Michael O'Sullivan, The Angel of Death (or Tom Hanks to the rest of you).

Sincerely,

Michael
