Hey folks, Harry here... Seems that we are continuing to hear conflicting stories on the INDIANAPOLIS story, but it is sure now that the project is based at UNIVERSAL (which certainly makes sense). I've heard repeated reports that David Self is writing, but he may of simply been attached for a polish. We're still looking deeper. Tom Stoppard is great though. Here are two more reports on INDIANAPOLIS....
Here are some facts about that story regarding the USS Indianapolis. Universal out bid a director for the rights who shall remain nameless. It came about based on a New York Times Article, and they (universal) won out over this other director. Now the writer is the same guy who wrote Shakespeare in love (Tom Stoppard) but that might be another rumor, but i have a pretty good source on it. I have not heard anything regarding Speilberg directing, but then again that doesn't mean much. What i do know is that the part about the little kid, the trial and all is true and thats the basis of the film. And Universal owns it. Besides, as I have heard it, Speilberg will do Minority Report next, then who knows as these things change like the wind. Don't know if this helps at all, but thought I would share

Hmmmmm, could Connery be campaigning to play the captain of the Indianapolis? You can be sure we will continue to search...
No doubt, AICN Quint and I share the same love of JAWS. It's a movie that always amazes me. That each time I watch Spielberg's greatest movie, I always find something new that I hadn't noticed about it before. This stems back from when I was a wee lad of 7 and Mom taking me to see it in the theater back in 1975.
Now I do remember a MOW of the Indianapolis, which I haven't seen. And the thought of a young Quint aboard would make an interesting movie to accompany his tale of woe on the Orca. But what I found interesting was that I had talked to Fountainbridge Films last year (Sean Connery's prod.company) and going thru the interview, that story actually came up in conversation. I don't know if they were pursuing the script, looking to write it themselves, or shopping the script. That never came up. But the story of the young lad in Miami is true, and when she (Rhonda Tollefson) brought it up, of course I spouted off my knowledge of it and how it could be tied into JAWS. Now, unfortunately I never got the job at Fountainbridge (Connery's bungalow is really cool)
