Hey folks, Harry here with an oh so brief taste of Disney's ATLANTIS... We've had mixed reviews through the test screening process, but I've been hoping that the test screenings have actually helped the film hone in on the task at hand which is adventure story-telling.... Seems like they've managed to do that a bit, at least according to this reviewer, but the comedy bits concern me as Disney's crutch of comedy often times is the disappointment for many animation fans. Here ya go, keep your fingers crossed on this one...

This is a very quick email, but I've just seen a screening of Atlantis, and I wanted to pass on my first impressions, and man is it awesome.
It plays like a multi-ethnic Dirty Dozen meets Jules Verne. It's a lot funnier than the trailers so far have indicated. The sets are amazing, it should get Oscars for set design, costume and a bunch of other stuff. There is plenty of action, explosions, death, gags and two, yes two of the most gorgeous female animated characters ever, a wonder Lauren Bacal esque femme fatale and the Atlantian babe featured in the trailer.
There are some logic gaps and problems with pace, but it's a real romp and takes you on the type of journey Disney have never attempted before, though they can't help their odd moment of sentiment. It's great fun and I laughed a lot. A must see, let's hope Disney can move on from this is leaps and bounds. It's a pity there will soon be an animation feature Oscar, because if mainstream animation continue in their maturity with the help of anime and The Simpsons, these films should be competeing and pushing the life action movies.
