Folks, Harry here... SPIDER-MAN... First off, the spy that sent this has been with me under different permutations of anonymity since ID4 backgrounds and one page updates and Star Wars Special Editions. He's long term reliable, and has been an excellent source on all things, so you can absolutely bank on this thing's existence. And having said that.... you have to hold your load in while reading this, because I got very very very very very excited while thinking about this... and there is a description of the WEB-SHOOTERS!!! well... i dunno how to describe this. Sony had a departmental meeting today for the Finance division... where they go over the books and numbers projected, blah blah blah stuff. But at the end they gave it's employees a sneak peek at what feature production has to offer... to show us what they're hoping will make a ton of money for the studio. so they roll A Knight's Tale trailer, followed by Final Fantasy, Rollerball (Sony must have co-financed and grabbed international distribution or something), a small featurette for America's Sweethearts introduced by Joe Roth), a couple others I don't remember, but what they ended with was what looks like a new trailer for Spiderman.
What can I say... HOLY FUCKIN' COW! It starts with those webs from the first sho-west trailer going across the screen accompanied by the Matrix music. A couple title cards appear with voice over. something about 40 years, blah blah blah.. popularity.... something something something, then Tobey's head in costume pops up. but what got me were the next shots, we scale a wall with the wallcrawler.. the camera movement is panning up along the wall with him in a sweeping arc, and (to me at least) he looks so McFarlane-ish in doing so.. hugging the wall very closely. very hard to tell if it was a CG Spidey or a practical Tobey.. (I'm thinking CG), but what comes next is totally CG... SPIDEY SWINGING THRU NY! Raimi & Dykstra have the camera movements down so as to make you feel you're swinging along with the CG spidey.
There are small cuts of Tobey in his room with a webshooter on! I read the script, and with as quick a clip as it is... it LOOKS like the old webshooter design.. a wristband with a trigger device that protrudes to the center of his palm, however, i haven't read any changes that they aren't organic and you can't really tell from the quick glimpse, but then they cut back to CG Spidey going from thread to thread thru the skyscrapers of NY. sweeping camera movements... Raimi type camera work to give Spidey even more quickness and movement. Truly some remarkable work from Imageworks! Harry, you'll jizz your pants when you see some of this footage.
You should check you other spies to see if anyone was able to view this trailer.. I'm pretty sure it was for sho-west. i mean, those shots of CG spidey are still temps and they don't look like final shots, but the movement and animation is pretty much there.
