cost of living

by now i think i just go to movies so grumpy, first of all because i am sick and secondly because i am now in the mind set that i cannot spend money on anything so i must see more movies. i try not to have this bias my opinions, but in some cases today, i think i can't help it.

cost of living entertained me. it was a good story with a good strong female role (something more movies need, and this one is even a male filmmaking team). i know this is going to get comparisons to the female james dean or like we heard walking out of the theater, the female clint eastwood. but this lead is a totally different character plus she is a woman, and i don't think james dean and clint's traits can translate for a woman (not to be sexist, but the traits are all so masculine, not that a woman can't be masculine, o.k. i dug myself a whole i cannot get out of, but hopefully you will understand what i mean).

the one problem i have with this lead being a feminist role model, is that she depends and uses men to get where she is going. why can't she do it alone, james dean essentially does, he's too cool to get messed up with women, same with clint. does this mean that no women can live without a man, not even such a strong figure as "billie" (a man's name none-the-less, so now i take the feminist view).
