Wong Kar-Wai's 2046... why

Hey folks, Harry here with a scoop sent in from Mr Screwjack that he picked up at THE ONION's AV Club which talked to cinematic genius, Wong Kar-Wai about his next film... 2046, and I have to say that beyond just my regular Pavlovian-reaction to WKW's work, I am fascinated with the concept of him making a film based on the concept of promises and influences on life based within a larger version of that tale... Like with all Wong Kar-Wai films, this sounds like another to keep our eyes on closely. I can't wait!

I know you've mentioned this film on the site but I am unaware as to whether or not you've posted what it is about. Recently, Wong Kar-Wai spoke to "The Onion's AV club" about filming "In the Mood for Love" and "2046" back to back. Anyway, in the interview he revealed the concept behind "2046".

When asked about it Kar-Wai said: "Well, we wanted to make this film because in 1997, the Chinese government promised Hong Kong 50 years without any changes. So 2046 is the last year before the promised date. We wanted to make a film about promises, and we wanted to make a film to explore how things can change in life."

The full article can be read at THE ONION's AV Club.

Hope this is of use. Once again, Mr. Screwjack at your service.
