Latest on Sam Mendes' ROAD TO PERDITION with Tom Hanks

Hey folks, Harry here with the latest on ROAD TO PERDITION. Now it is curious to me why the media, in almost all of their, "WHAT TO BE EXCITED ABOUT IN CINEMA THIS YEAR" columns... that they've left both this and the untitled Barber Shop Project from the Coens (well and Spike Jonze's ADAPTATION for that matter) off their lists. This project's pedigree is exemplary and having Hanks play a Hitman... well it could be as chillingly effective as when Henry Fonda played Frank in ONCE UPON A TIME IN THE WEST for Leone. Sergio was fascinated by a look in Fonda's eyes... that same soulful everyman look that made Fonda a hero, could be turned on its flip side and made to look like the dead stare of a cold uncaring man. In ROAD TO PERDITION, will Hanks have that type of performance? I certainly hope so. Here's Spensam....

Hey Harry,

My wife ran accross this memo detailing a suburban Chicago office supply store whose warehouse is being used as a set for an upcoming Tom Hanks movie. It's about six miles from my house. It even has the Dreamworks logo on it.

Sam Mendes directs Hanks, a hit man for the Irish Mafia who is double crossed, then joins up with Al Capone (Alfred Molina) to seek revenge.

I dont know if this is old news or not, but it's the first I've heard of it. I've attached the memo.

First time contributor, call me Spensam
