TAXI DRIVER 2: TARGET GIULIANI'

All right, Harry here, and I think this is about three thousand to one long odds, but let's contemplate it a bit. Bickle in a New York whose Time Square is wiped clean of Porn Theaters and Strip Bars... where there are strict rules and regulations for cab drivers... where the city has begun to be cleaned up in a Giuliani New York. Where does Bickle belong? It's 30 years of the road. Driving, seeing echoes and dreams of Cybil in the backseat... the girl he saved... what has happened to her? Where is Bickle and what has he become now? If Scorsese and DeNiro were to revisit (and I'm not convinced it's a good idea) and they had Paul Shrader write it... if they were to keep it cheap and bare bones... it could be a fascinating film. What is a mid-fifties Travis Bickle? Charles Bukowski, perhaps? Sitting in bars staring at women picking up men, knowing that they are all whores? Or has he become sweet and kind and cuddly and safe? And which is more frightening?

OK, so this ain't a story saying it's happening but in this month's Empire there is a rather rare interview with De Niro and they get talking about everyone's favourite cabbie Travis.

De Niro seems to like the idea of returning to the character 20, 30 years later, but says it's not really been talked about?

Surely he would not mention it unless he has really thought about it. De Niro likes to be selective with his comments... is he trying to get something to happen here? What studio would not read that and start to feel their pants tightening???

I reckon Bobby Boy is either teasing us all or is hinting at something he want to do!!

What do you think???

Later
