so guess what this is? you guessed it. and i quickly learn to read synopsizes at points like these, and not make quick decisions by the name of the film. now i could tell by the name, that it would probably be a serious film, and i was guessing foreign. but i should have learned. but i sit through it, and i learned a lot. i never knew 90% of the things mentioned in this touching documentary about the jewish survivors of the holocaust in their search for a homeland.
first of all, it is hard to imagine a group of people that large, that suffered so much, not even having a homeland. no place to say where they are from. hence the question of whether jewish is a race or a culture or just a religion? it is a tough question, when you ask which of these need a place to say they are from, a "home."
secondly, these people had so many hardships during world war ii, and even before (when hitler was first coming into power). they finally are freed from the concentration camps, and what does the united states do, put them in new camps. so they don't abuse them with medical tests, but they are still starving, half naked, and poor. britain would not allow them to immigrate, and neither did the united states (even though they fought for them to immigrate into britain).
none of this makes sense to me, mainly because i am a product of a different generation, race, and culture. i see things like the holocaust museum in d.c. or the anne frank house in amsterdam, and i cannot comprehend the suffering. it is utterly amazing.
