HERC Reviews The Last BOSTON PUBLIC Of Sweeps

BOSTON PUBLIC 1.15 FAQ

WHAT’S IT CALLED?

“Chapter Fifteen.”

WHO’S RESPONSIBLE?

Teleplay is credited to David E. Kelley & John J. Sakmar & Kerry Lenhart, who seem to have evolved into this series’ regular writing team.

WHAT’S TV GUIDE SAY?

“A tertiary but telling storyline reveals a chink in the armor of Vice Principal Scott Guber, solidly portrayed with a steely resolve throughout the season by Anthony Heald. It seems that on the strength of his recent stint as guest conductor for the Boston Pops, Guber has been invited to interview for a permanent position with the Northampton Symphony. Stunned and elated, Guber makes the trip to meet with the orchestra board. Surprises ensue. In other developments, renewed violence rewrites the pact between Senate and a former gangbanger; and a rush to judgment stresses out a cheerleading coach accused of molesting a student.”

WHAT’S THE TV GUIDE AD?

There’s a picture of a Kleenex box with these words over it: “You may need one of these tonight.”

WHY WOULD WE NEED A KLEENEX BOX?

Somebody dies. But don’t be surprised if you remain dry-eyed. The death befalls a character we haven’t gotten to know very well, and it is NOT the most compelling aspect of the episode. (If you DO want a good cry, check out Tuesday’s “Buffy!”)

SUCKOMETRIC READINGS?

Suck reading is zero. “Boston Public” has taken its place as one of the best shows on television.

IS TV GUIDE RIGHT?

TV Guide is right: the Guber storyline tonight is fabulous; keep your eyes open.

WHEN’S THE FIRST TWIST IN THE GUBER STORY KICK IN?

About three-quarters in, after he completes his first trip to Northampton. And just before the episode’s end, the twists come faster.

THE BIG NEWS?

Milton Buttle is back. He shows up briefly to mock Guber in an amusing manner and pick up his girlfriend, Lisa Grier - but Joey Slotnick has not returned to the title credits. Lisa, meanwhile, learns that Senate is covering up the fact that he knows his pet ex-gangbanger killed a rival (albeit in self-defense). Look for more exciting blackmail attempts on everybody’s favorite authority-defying wiseacre! Also, Marylin nearly gets her head blown off with a shotgun because she’s caught in a car with the ex-gangbanger after choir practice.

WHAT’S GOING ON WITH LAUREN DAVIS?

When the cheerleading coach is accused of molesting female students, Lauren offers to Steven that she believes the coach once made a pass at her.

IS JENNA MILLER, THE HOT TEACHER HARRY USED TO DATE, BACK?

Not this week!

DO WE MEET HARRY’S JAILBIRD DAD?

Not this week!

DO WE SEE HARRY DO SOMETHING WE HAVEN’T SEEN HARRY DO BEFORE?

We do!

TELL US HOW TO SQUANDER OUR MONDAYS, O HERCULES!
