Hey folks, Harry here... Seems that our spy from TOY FAIR seemed to have extrapolated his info and made some 'best guesses', but here we have someone in the know that is giving us the skinny on the story real good. However, his information is extremely SPOILERISH... so much so that about halfway through I stopped reading cuz... I didn't want to know anymore. SO.... read at your own risk.... BEWARE.....
I like to get my information from your site, as much as the next guy, but I generally would like to think that it is at least right.
For this reason I am going to quickly clarify the WAY off target description of the PIXAR Monsters flick.
This is going to be as great as any of their previous movies full of great story and character. This is the biggest problem I had with the previous summary.
Mike and Sulley are the top scarers at Monsters Inc., one of many competing companies in Monstropolis. Children's screams are the power for Monstropolis and Monsters Inc. controls the business of Closet doors while others have under the bed, etc.
The trick is that Monsters are actually more afraid of children and will do anything to prevent anything from the children's world getting into theirs. There is even a CDA, child detection agency, that are like the Men in Black who come in and decontaminate even a sock that may be static clung onto the back of a poor employee.
Now Boo IS NOT obsessed with Monsters, with her own little suit. She is as terrified as any other kid would be of monsters in her room. The trick is, that each child has a specifically chosen monster that is best suited to scare them. For Boo it is Randall, an evil chameleon like monster voiced by Steve Buscemi. Randall is breaking the rules and scaring after hours to try and catch up to Sulley's numbers and become the top scarer.
Sulley sees a door not put away and investigates, inadvertantly letting Boo into Monstropolis as she is not afraid of Sulley because he is not her specially chosen monster. Instead she adores the cuddly ball of fur immediately and calls him "kitty, kitty". Sulley in turn is terrified of her and what will happen to him if anyone finds out that he has allowed a child into their world.
Randall returns the closet portal door to storage before Sulley can return her and is forced to hide her until he can return her back so as to not get into trouble from the CDA.
Boo's costume comes about as an attempt to sneak her back into Monsters Inc. as a monster and get rid of her.
But Mike and Sulley are found out and banished from Monstropolis to the human world and the Himalayas. Here they meet the Abominable Snowman, and we find out but don't see or meet that the Loch Ness monster and others of myth and legend were also banished. But Boo is not here and does not meet them.
Mike and Sulley sneak to a town and hide in a child's room in order to escape back to Monstropolis when a scarer enters through the closet portal.
They save Boo and get her back to her proper room and Monstropolis is forever changed due to Sulley and Boo's bonding.
Do with this what you will, but it is always better to
be right than wrong.
OLDER INFO BELOW...................
Hey folks, Harry here with a report from Toyman, wielder of Adult Toys everywhere. Like the McFarlane SHAFT TOY and the HUMONGUS TOY.... Adult Toys like those! What'd you think I was talking about? Filthy beast! But now for real reel adult fun.... PIXAR. Their last film, TOY STORY 2, revealed the secret of life itself.... now we will behold as they bring the world of monsters to life (and I'd bet it's infinitely better than that movie that opened this weekend with me in it). BEWARE OF SPOILERS... enjoy...
Hi,
I was at Toy Fair in New York, and saw some displays and tapes that Pixar brought to get vendors for toys licenced from their next movie, Monsters, Inc. You look pretty excited about the movie. No one has said anything yet, so I thought I'd tell you what I saw.
It's set in a Monster World, where all the monsters come from who scare kids in their rooms at night. There's a company that's all about scaring kids. It's the kid's fear that powers everything in the Monster World.
One night, monsters Mike and Sully are doing their jobs, scaring kids, when they run into a kid who isn't scared of them at all. In fact, she's been waiting for the monsters to show up all night. She's always been obsessed with the monsters, and wants to be one of them, and go around the world scaring people. She's even made her own monster suit, and wants to be called just by her monster name "Boo".
Boo follows Mike and Sully back to Monster World, where she convinces them to train her how to be a good scarer. At first they don't want anything to do with her (she's like an alien in their world), but pretty soon they soften up and let her go to work with them in disguise. They have to keep her identity as a kid secret, though, or else their boss, who is a big crab (literally) will fire them for letting a human into Monster World.
There are a lot of close calls where Boo almost gets found out. Along the way Boo meets some of the legendary monsters, like the Lock Ness Monster, Bigfoot, the Abominable Snowman, and the Sea Serpent. She gets pretty good at frightening kids, and starts to make a name for herself. Mike and Sully are proud of their new "trainee". One night she gets assigned to scare a kid that was a neighbor of hers in the Human World, and he recognizes her and blows her cover.
There's an uproar in Monster World that one of the best scarers in the business is really a human kid. A mob of monsters comes after Boo, and for the first time in her life, Boo gets really scared. She sees that being scared really isn't a cool thing, and realizes it was wrong for her to scare other kids. She talks to the monsters about it. They realize she's right. They've been profiting off of the misery of others all this time. Even if they're just humans, they still have feelings. Boo goes back to her Human World life, happy for the experience, but she's learned a lot about compassion.
The animation and characters look great. Really imaginative and I think they'll make good toys. There were figures and dolls and playsets, plus a Make A Monster set, where you get parts and build monsters out of them. It will probably be big in the fall.
