Father Geek here. I love Lovecraft! And I'll take him any way I can get him, old pulp magazines, Underground comix, above ground mainstream comics, paperbacks, hardcovers, unproduced scripts, radio dramas, and of course finished films like FROM BEYOND (which I just revisited on DVD a couple of days ago); DIE, MONSTER, DIE; THE DUNWICH HORROR; THE HAUNTED PALACE; CRY OF THE BANSHEE; THE SHUTTERED ROOM; NECRONOMICON; RE-ANIMATOR;
and many more, but like Edgar Allan Poe, old HP has had alot of his original stories mangled thru the years. However also like Poe's bad adaptations (love Corman's THE RAVEN, and THE HOUSE OF USHER although there's little Poe there) I find myself curiously drawn to even the worst of them (witness TORTURE CHAMBER OF DR. SADISM and DR. TARR'S PIT OF HORRORS). Wishful thinking I guess. Maybe, just maybe it will turnout like SPIRITS OF THE DEAD, or 1932's fantastic MURDERS IN THE RUE MORGUE, or 1913's wonderful adaptation of THE BELLS (I've got this on DVD it's super cool). If you ever get the chance to see 1953's great animated short THE TELL-TALE HEART with outstanding voice work by James Mason DO NOT pass it up, it just may be the BEST Poe adaptation to the big screen ever. Below is a report just in from Edgard at our Paris AICN offices concerning the latest of these H. P. Lovecraft efforts. Check it out, it could just surprize the Hell out of you...
Hi folks... Edgard here... I just received a message I
couldn't keep for me alone any longer... I know there're a
lot of Lovecraft fans out there - many of them who are
worried that films won't do justice to the writer's
talent. That's an open debate, buuuuut....
Here at Euro AICN we have already talked several time of
this German production HAUNTER OF THE DARK (you can
see some pre-design work By Clicking Here and visiting one of our previous stories. Now it
seems the project is going ahead and that even you
could be associated (in a virtual way) to the project.
Sounds quite exciting. Here's Martin the Martian with
more details...

Hi there,
I've got a few news about the German Lovecraft-adaption of 'The Haunter Of The Dark'. They are offering a new service called CYBER PRODUCER. Everyone who attends their website can become part of the production. It's like the Virtual-Producer-thing they did on 'Shadow of the Vampire', but they are offering a lot more insight into the production and even a few great specials where you can help make decisions like being a real producer, e.g. you can help decide on the casting of lead and support characters, you can download the script and you get little mpegs showing you behind-the-scenes material.
For more information go to this location: And Just Click on to their site.
As they are stating you can also meet the producers and director of 'The Haunter of the Dark' at two locations, one in Los Angeles and the other in Munich, Germany. More information on the site. In Munich they seem to present a 45-minute Reel showcasing the production with lots of insight into production design, creature fx, storyboarding and visual fx.
Sounds cool to me.
Hope you enjoy this news.
Martin the Martian out.
