bury me in kern county

not to be mean, because i did enjoy this film, but i am not sure what pushed this film ahead of the other narrative films in competition in order to win the runner-up prize behind men cry bullets (which i failed to see). the acting, especially the younger sister, was phenomenal. and there is a little tribute to the fox tv viewers, which is quite amusing. then there is the representation of "white trash" which just hits the nail on the head. but i don't know, i guess for me the plot was not strong enough to raise it to that higher level. but, like i said, don't get me wrong, i enjoyed the film, it just had tough competition (and obviously somebody really liked it, so it must be better than i think it is).

this was my first time in union theater, on ut's campus. all i have to say is that i wish my college had a bowling alley in my student center. wow! i wonder if the ut austin students know how well they have it. as far as the theater goes, hey it worked, had a big screen, leg room was a bit scrunched (i always feel guilty putting my feet up on the row in front of me, but it was a necessity here, good thing i was really at only two sold out shows here).

well, it is still day two and i now approach my fourth film of the day. looking back, i feel guilty for avoiding the panels (i did go to the newton boys panel, but i left early, sorry richard and company, but many films awaited me). the other mortal sin i committed was, i don't know if i should say, ok, i will, i did not go to the newton boys premiere (once again i will apologize to richard and company, sorry). being a budget traveler, the $10 was either worth a good dinner, 10 $0.99 pints of shiner or killians at the hickory, or a couple cab rides with good conversation, paying $10 for another film just wasn't an option for me.
