Hey, everyone. "Moriarty" here with some Rumblings From The Lab.
I'm glad to see people getting excited over SPIDER-MAN and PLANET OF THE APES as we hear more about the films. Even if they end up disappointing us... and I'm not saying they will... it's always more fun to enjoy this part of the process. Raimi and Burton seem to be having fun, and I've always been a sucker for the anticipation of this type of big genre film. I might have to head down to see this set myself and enjoy the anticipation all that much more... here's MR. PAUL to explain what's going on...
So today I decide to take me two sons (5 and 2.5) ((that's there ages, not thier names...)) to see Sue the dinosaur skeleton at the Museum of Natural History here in LA. Now the museum happens to be across the street from USC where we've all heard they would be filming scenes for spider-man. Well after boring the missus with this story for the umpteenth time, my spider-sense goes off as we approach the museum, cause I see small pink signs pointing the way to a cryptic "set".
"that's got to be the Spider-man set, " I boast to my wife. Sadly, I think my search will be detered while we seek Sue. But after 30 minutes of Sue, the kids are bored so we head to the great kids museum area in the museum, but what do I see?!??!?
The "hot set" lab of SPIDER-MAN!!!! There in the old rotunda of the museum sits all this great looking lab stuff, very current and hip looking, and real! The images of spiders from science books tacked to bulletin boards all around me clinches it, as does the guy watching the set! This is it!! The bronze statues of three women have been covered by a cool looking huge silver tube thing, that has to be some kind of reactor or partcil accelorator or maybe just a juicer. In any case it dominates the space and looks cool as hell.
Apparently they are shooting at night. But it seemed like everyone who came through knew what they were looking at. I heard several dad's tell thier sons this is the labe were Spider-man gets bit by the radioactive spider that gives him his powers. This movie looks likes its on track to be the next Star Wars, in its potential to connect with a ready audience.
this same lobby rotunda has been featured in other films, unfortunately the only one I can think of is a Charles Band movie kind of like Dr. Strange, and I think he fought some creature in this lobby as well.
Oh yes on the glass doors leading from the kids museum into the rotunda were some latin words painted on the doors. My latin is way rusty, but I am pretty sure it was done for the movie. I will call them tommorrow, but maybe this is where we will get the "great power/great responsibility quote" from?
Sorry, I didn't have time to jot it down, had to watch the two happy wanderers (and the wife)
No problem, MR. PAUL. Thanks for the report!!
"Moriarty" out.
