Hi guys,

I just saw Coffin Joe - the Strange World of Jose Mojica Marins, the documentary about my idol Coffin Joe, at Sundance. It was unbelievable! The film got a special jury mention at Sundance, and deservedly so!

Father Geek back un otro vez, this time to introduce our Brazilian editor Coffin Joe...
Oi , amigos , Coffin Joe here , with more news from Brazil and the Latin world , hope you like what we got this week for ya . Dig in creepy friends .
-Hey , a few days ago in Sundance , the movie " Possible Loves " , directed by Sandra Werneck , won the Latin American Cinema Awards Jury Prize in Latin American Cinema , with " Without a Trace " , which was directed by Maria Navarro .
" Possible Loves " is set to open here in Brazil on March 30th , so I haven´t seen the damn thing yet , but here´s some info on it : the plot of the movie is basically a love story , between the characters Julia and Carlos , who are friends , knowing each other from college . The movie mainly concerns the choices presented to the Carlos during a night when Julia stood him up at the movies , some fifteen years ago . Depending on his actions that night , his life is bound to take a different turn , so from then on the movie presents three versions of Carlos´ life , each one pretty much a whole lot different from the other . In one of them he´s a homosexual who lives a full life , on another he´s a man torn between his marriage , which isn´t going that well , and a burning passion for another woman , and finally , on his third life , he´s a guy who hasn´t found true love yet , but is still searching . Which life is the real one ?
There you go , that´s the plot . It´s kinda like " Sliding Doors " ( which I thought sucked ) , or " Run Lola Run " ( which rules the Earth ) , with no guns or red hairs . The cast includes Murilo BenÃcio ( from " Woman on Top " ) , Carolina Ferraz , Beth Goulart and Irene Ravache .
Here are some pics from the flick , enjoy .

-I´m a big fan of Soulfly , the band put together by former Sepultura frontman , Max Cavalera , so I visit the official site ( www.soulflytribe.com ) every now and then , and this week I stumbled upon some interesting news . Here´s the article staright from the site :
" MAX DOES VOICE IN MOVIE
Wednesday, January 24, 2001
Check this out, Max just flew to L.A. a few days ago to record some of his yells and screams for a upcoming film starring WWF Wrestler "The Rock".
Apparently "The Rock" doesn't have the mean voice to match his attitude, and the guy looking for the perfect growling voice happened to be a Soulfly fan! Cool... "So, what do you guys think , is it for " The Mummy Returns " , or " Scorpion King " already ? I don´t know but it sure is awesome , because Max has one mean voice .
-COFFIN JOE strikes again ! Did you lads see the Special Jury Mention the documentary " Coffin Joe : The Strange World of José Mojica Marins " got ? I mean come on . It´s the MAN . Congratulations to directors André Barcinski and Ivan Finotti , who are also the guys who penned Joe´s biography . I have no idea when this movie will be released here , but as soon as I get some info I´ll pass it to you fellas . In the meantime , anyone who saw it at Sundance could send a review to Latin-AICN , we sure would appreciate it .
Here´s the cover of that biography .

I haven´t written that review of " Capitães de Abril " , the first movie directed by Maria de Medeiros , the Portuguese actress who was in " Pulp Fiction " , but I promise ( honestly ) I´ll write it for next week .
Coffin Joe says : bye
P.S. : Here´s the naked dude from Queens of the Stone Age at Rock in Rio

Hey , Father Geek , here´s a little update on the Coffin Joe documentary , " Coffin Joe : The Strange World of José Mojica Marins " . The documentary has been picked up by DirectTV , and it will be aired six times in the next couple of months here in Brazil , plus there will be a DVD which will be released in the US . Coffin Joe went to a radio show here in Brazil called " Garagem " ( which is co-hosted by one of the directors of the documentary , André Barcinski ) and he talked about his experiences in Sundance , including meeting Michael Stipe from R.E.M. , talking to Darren Aronofski ( director of Pi and Requiem for a Dream ) and receiving the award . I´ll try to get more info and I´ll post it next week . See ya .
