SANITY

I did not want to monkey hustle my countrybumpkinbutt all the way back the Convention Center parking garage, so I decided I’d walk to the Dobie, which was a pleasant trek to the midnight showing of SANITY, but when I’s was walking home all the way ‘cross town in the rain at two in the morn, I was thinkin’ dif’rently. I just wanted to go to sleep, and by the time I got to my car, I was soaked through to the bone. By far the most uncomfortable night of adventure sleepin’ I’d had up to that point, nuthin’ worse’n wakin’ up at the asscrack of dawn as the sun hits ya in the face an’ you realize that you is still soaked and you smell like mold. Very few things anyway, but we is gonna come to that in good time…

SANITY was my first favorite film from the festival. Filmed on location in the city of Austin, this movie ranked as one of my all time fave love stories, up there with Godard’s BREATHLESS, SHE’S SO LOVELY and AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER. A hilariously dark comedy featuring in incredibly talented cast, most notably Tonie Perensky as the gorgeous Roxanne – a chick with a penchant for death, but lacking the conviction to follow through with the job at hand, that being her own suicide, of course.

Poor Roxanne, just can’t see the writing on the wall, simply unable to take a deep breath and just say, ‘fuck it.’ Before you know it, she’s recruiting potential burglars (Kerry Beyer and Ben Pasco) to aid her in exacting her own demise. Dark, loving, and full of reasons for celebration, this film is by Austin’s own Geneva Fowler. She is one amazing chick as her film project prior to SANITY is an interesting altho tragic one indeed. Her backstory of SANITY began when her first feature film was being stored in a refrigerator which in turn caught fire, thus melting all evidence of the film’s existence! Tragedy however, breeds newfound love and devotion, and the result is an absolute hoot!

No dude out there will be claiming ‘too sappy’ or ‘chick flick,’ as they’ll howl with glee at each twist and turn as they travel through the unpredictable woven dream which is Geneva Fowler. HAVE A BLAST WITH THIS FILM!!!! Viva la SANITY!!!

And so ends day three… the true blast began on day four…
