Ozy, great stuff for you. I received reportage from a very reliable source (100%) involved in Woo's Windtalkers. And the pictures kick ass!!!
In October, I passed to AICN some interesting information about the problems that John Woo had with the MGM executives. In particular, a great scene (my source affirms it was the best one of the entire movie), with an american tank which destroys a japanese bunker, that was in doubt.
Unfortunately, I received a confirmation: we won't see this scene because the executives eliminated it. This decision made John Woo (and the crew) very upset, because it was all prepared (and it was very expensive to organize). Moreover, John Woo was also forced to fire many cameramen and to eliminate many parts of the script.
In novembre the crew started shooting in Dillingham (North Shore), where they stayed two weeks. Then they came back in Los Angeles to shoot other scenes. Even if the MGM officially declared that production is expected to wrap in January, my source told me they have to work at least until mid February, even if they cut other scenes. This could explain the MGM decision to move the release date from june to november.
I also received two great pictures of the movie. I haven't seen them anywhere and I think they are the best ones to have appeared on the Internet concerning Windtalkers.
